Genital trauma?
Hello doctor, I was hit in the genital area with a stick, and the next day my genitals started to hurt.
When I looked, I noticed that the skin around my testicles had red blood vessels.
What could be the issue? Also, is it normal to dream about ejaculation?

Dr. Li Xinyi reply Urology
Dreaming about ejaculation is a normal occurrence related to the genital area.
It sounds like there is no issue.
However, if there are concerns, it is advisable to consult a urologist for an examination.

More Info
Testicular pain following trauma can be a concerning symptom, and it is essential to understand the potential causes and implications of such an injury. When you experience pain in the testicles after being struck, it can be attributed to several factors, including bruising, swelling, or even more severe injuries such as torsion or rupture of the testicle.
1. Bruising and Swelling: The immediate response of the body to trauma is inflammation. When the testicles are struck, blood vessels can become damaged, leading to bruising and swelling. The redness you observe on the skin over the testicle may indicate superficial bruising or increased blood flow to the area due to inflammation. This is a common response and can be accompanied by pain, tenderness, and discomfort.
2. Testicular Torsion: This is a more serious condition where the spermatic cord becomes twisted, cutting off the blood supply to the testicle. Symptoms include sudden, severe pain, swelling, and sometimes nausea. If you experience intense pain that does not subside, it is crucial to seek immediate medical attention, as this condition can lead to loss of the testicle if not treated promptly.
3. Rupture: In severe cases, trauma can cause a rupture of the testicle, which is a surgical emergency. Symptoms may include severe pain, swelling, and possibly a visible deformity of the testicle. If you notice any significant changes in shape or severe pain, it is vital to get evaluated by a healthcare professional.
4. Infection or Hematoma: Sometimes, trauma can lead to the formation of a hematoma (a collection of blood outside of blood vessels) or an infection, which can also cause pain and swelling. If you notice increasing redness, warmth, or discharge, it may indicate an infection that requires treatment.
Regarding your question about dreaming of ejaculation, this is a normal physiological response. Dreams involving sexual themes, including ejaculation, are common and can occur regardless of recent physical trauma. These dreams are part of the body's natural processes and do not necessarily indicate any underlying issue, especially in the context of recent trauma.
Recommendations:
- Seek Medical Attention: Given your symptoms, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider. They may perform a physical examination and possibly imaging studies (like an ultrasound) to assess the condition of your testicles and rule out any serious injuries.
- Rest and Ice: In the meantime, applying ice to the area can help reduce swelling and alleviate pain. Ensure you do this in moderation and with a cloth barrier to avoid frostbite.
- Pain Management: Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help manage discomfort, but consult with a healthcare provider for appropriate dosing and recommendations based on your specific situation.
In summary, while some pain and swelling can be expected after trauma to the testicles, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If the pain worsens, or if you experience any additional concerning symptoms, do not hesitate to seek medical attention. Early intervention can prevent complications and ensure proper healing.
