Head trauma
Four years ago, I hit my head and it was very painful at the time, but I applied medication to help it heal.
After a while, I stopped using the medication and had no symptoms.
However, there is still a small bump on my head, about 1 to 2 centimeters, and it feels hard.
What could happen?

Head trauma can lead to a variety of symptoms and long-term effects, especially when the injury is significant or if there are underlying conditions, such as a history of migraines. In your case, having experienced a head injury four years ago, it is important to understand the potential implications of your symptoms and the hard area on your scalp.
When you sustain a head injury, the immediate effects can include pain, swelling, dizziness, and nausea. These symptoms can arise from a variety of causes, including contusions (bruises), concussions (a type of traumatic brain injury), or even more serious conditions like skull fractures or intracranial hemorrhages. The fact that you experienced significant pain and swelling at the time of the injury suggests that there was a considerable impact.
The hard area you describe on your scalp, which is about 1-2 cm in size, could be a result of a few different things. It may be a residual area of swelling or a hematoma (a localized collection of blood outside of blood vessels) that has hardened over time. In some cases, a bony prominence can form at the site of a previous injury, which may feel hard to the touch. This is known as a callus formation, which is the body's way of healing and reinforcing the area after trauma.
Long-term symptoms following head trauma can vary widely. Some individuals may experience chronic headaches, which can be exacerbated by stress or changes in weather. Given your history of migraines, it is possible that the trauma has influenced the frequency or intensity of your migraine episodes. Additionally, cognitive symptoms such as difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, and confusion can occur after head injuries, particularly if there was a concussion involved.
It is also important to consider the psychological impact of head trauma. Many individuals experience anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following significant injuries, especially if the injury was associated with a traumatic event, such as domestic violence. This can further complicate recovery and contribute to ongoing symptoms.
Given your description of ongoing symptoms and the hard area on your scalp, it is advisable to seek a medical evaluation. A neurologist or a specialist in head injuries can perform a thorough assessment, which may include imaging studies such as a CT scan or MRI to rule out any serious underlying issues. They can also help determine if your symptoms are related to the previous injury or if they are part of a separate condition.
In summary, while some symptoms may resolve over time, others can persist or develop long after the initial injury. It is crucial to address any ongoing symptoms with a healthcare professional to ensure proper management and to rule out any serious complications. Early intervention can significantly improve outcomes and quality of life for individuals experiencing long-term effects from head trauma.
