On the 44th day, there is still no detectable result?
In December and January, I took ovulation medication and received trigger shots, which regulated my cycle to 28 days.
However, without any infertility treatment, my cycle typically lasts 31 to 32 days.
My last menstrual period started on February 5, and since then, I haven't taken any medication or received any injections.
Today, March 19, I am on day 44 of my cycle, and my period still hasn't arrived.
I had intercourse on January 25 and January 28, during which the doctor mentioned that there was a follicle ready to ovulate.
However, when I went to the hospital on day 40, the pregnancy test was negative, and no pregnancy was detected.
Is there still a possibility that I could be pregnant? My basal body temperature has also been irregular.
Could the treatments from the previous two months be causing my menstrual irregularity?

Dr. Lü Lizheng reply Obstetrics and Gynecology
The pregnancy test can provide results 18 days after the sexual intercourse, so it is likely that there is no pregnancy and it may be a case of irregular menstruation.

When faced with a situation of a missed period, especially after undergoing fertility treatments like ovulation induction and trigger shots, it's understandable to feel anxious about the possibility of pregnancy or hormonal imbalances. In your case, you have experienced a significant delay in your menstrual cycle, which has now reached 44 days. This can be concerning, particularly if you have been actively trying to conceive.
Firstly, it is important to understand that hormonal treatments can indeed affect your menstrual cycle. Medications such as ovulation induction drugs and trigger shots can lead to changes in your cycle length and regularity. After stopping these treatments, it may take some time for your body to readjust and return to its natural rhythm. This adjustment period can sometimes result in delayed ovulation or missed periods, which can be mistaken for pregnancy.
Regarding the possibility of pregnancy, it is essential to consider the timing of your sexual encounters in relation to your ovulation. If you had intercourse on January 25 and 28, and your ovulation was imminent, there is a chance that you could have conceived. However, since you have taken pregnancy tests that have returned negative results, it is less likely that you are pregnant, especially if these tests were taken after the expected date of your period.
It is also worth noting that home pregnancy tests are generally reliable, but they can sometimes yield false negatives, particularly if taken too early or if the hormone levels are not yet high enough to be detected. If you suspect you might still be pregnant, consider waiting a few more days and then retesting, or consult with your healthcare provider for a blood test, which can provide more accurate results.
In cases of prolonged amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), it is advisable to seek medical attention. Your healthcare provider may perform a physical examination, conduct blood tests to check hormone levels, and possibly perform an ultrasound to assess your ovaries and uterus. This comprehensive evaluation can help determine whether your missed period is due to pregnancy, hormonal imbalance, or another underlying issue.
In summary, while the possibility of pregnancy cannot be completely ruled out, the hormonal treatments you have undergone could be a significant factor contributing to your delayed period. It is crucial to monitor your symptoms and consult with your healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance. They can help you navigate this complex situation and determine the best course of action for your reproductive health. Remember, you are not alone in this journey, and seeking professional advice is a positive step toward understanding your body and its changes.
