Urethral pain

Yesterday, out of curiosity, I slightly inserted a disinfected stainless steel chopstick about 2-3 centimeters into my urethra.
The next day, I felt a sharp pain while urinating and I'm unsure if I have injured my urethra.
What should I do? Thank you, doctor.

Please visit the urology outpatient clinic for the physician to arrange further endoscopic examination to determine if there is any damage to the urethra.

More Info

Urethral pain following the insertion of a foreign object, such as a stainless steel chopstick, can be concerning and may indicate potential injury or irritation to the urethra. The urethra is a sensitive tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body, and any trauma or irritation can lead to discomfort, pain, or even infection.

Possible Causes of Urethral Pain
1. Mechanical Injury: Inserting an object into the urethra can cause micro-tears or abrasions to the delicate lining of the urethra. This can lead to localized pain, swelling, and sometimes bleeding.

2. Irritation: The introduction of a foreign object can irritate the urethral mucosa, leading to inflammation and pain during urination. This irritation can manifest as a burning sensation or sharp pain when passing urine.

3. Infection: If bacteria are introduced into the urethra during the insertion, there is a risk of developing a urinary tract infection (UTI). Symptoms of a UTI may include increased frequency of urination, urgency, and pain or burning during urination.

4. Urethritis: This is the inflammation of the urethra, which can be caused by mechanical injury or infection. Symptoms may include pain during urination, discharge, and itching.

Recommended Actions
1. Avoid Further Irritation: Do not insert any more objects into the urethra, as this can exacerbate the injury and increase the risk of infection.

2. Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids to help flush out the urinary system. This can dilute the urine and may help alleviate some discomfort during urination.

3. Warm Compress: Applying a warm compress to the lower abdomen may help relieve some of the pain and discomfort.

4. Over-the-Counter Pain Relief: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help manage pain and reduce inflammation. Always follow the recommended dosage on the packaging.

5. Monitor Symptoms: Keep an eye on your symptoms. If the pain persists, worsens, or if you develop additional symptoms such as fever, chills, or unusual discharge, it is important to seek medical attention.

6. Consult a Healthcare Provider: If the pain does not improve within a day or two, or if you have concerns about potential injury or infection, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider. They may perform a physical examination and possibly recommend tests such as a urinalysis to check for signs of infection.

Conclusion
While curiosity can lead to interesting experiences, it is crucial to be aware of the potential risks involved in inserting foreign objects into the body. Urethral pain following such an incident can be a sign of injury or irritation, and taking the appropriate steps to care for yourself is essential. If symptoms persist or worsen, do not hesitate to seek medical advice to ensure proper evaluation and treatment.
