Tachycardia
Hello, I have recently been experiencing high blood pressure at 144/98 and issues with obesity.
Lately, I occasionally wake up feeling uncomfortable due to rapid heartbeats after sleeping, and I have been sweating profusely (the blanket is quite thick).
I find it difficult to retain water after drinking; instead, I end up urinating more and feel thirsty.
Thank you.

More Info
Hello! It sounds like you're experiencing a combination of symptoms that could be related to several underlying health issues. Your elevated blood pressure of 144/98 mmHg, along with obesity and episodes of rapid heartbeat, certainly warrants further investigation and management.
Understanding Your Symptoms
1. High Blood Pressure (Hypertension): Your blood pressure reading indicates stage 1 hypertension. Chronic high blood pressure can lead to serious health complications, including heart disease, stroke, and kidney damage. It's essential to manage hypertension through lifestyle changes and, if necessary, medication.
2. Rapid Heartbeat (Tachycardia): Experiencing a rapid heartbeat, especially during sleep, can be concerning. Tachycardia can be caused by various factors, including anxiety, stress, caffeine intake, hormonal imbalances, or underlying heart conditions. Given that you mentioned being awakened by a rapid heartbeat, this could be linked to sleep disturbances or anxiety.
3. Obesity: Obesity is a significant risk factor for both hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. Excess weight can strain the heart and lead to increased blood pressure. Additionally, obesity is often associated with metabolic syndrome, which includes a cluster of conditions that increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
4. Excessive Sweating and Dry Mouth: These symptoms could indicate an underlying endocrine issue, such as hyperthyroidism or diabetes. Both conditions can lead to increased heart rate and sweating. The fact that you mentioned difficulty absorbing water and feeling dry could suggest dehydration or an imbalance in your body's electrolytes.
Potential Causes
- Lifestyle Factors: High sodium intake, lack of physical activity, and excessive alcohol consumption can contribute to hypertension and rapid heartbeat.
- Medical Conditions: Conditions such as hyperthyroidism, sleep apnea, or anxiety disorders can lead to elevated heart rates and blood pressure.
- Medications: Certain medications, including those for asthma or nasal congestion, can increase heart rate and blood pressure.
Recommendations
1. Consult a Healthcare Provider: It's crucial to discuss your symptoms with a healthcare professional. They may recommend tests such as blood work, an electrocardiogram (ECG), or a Holter monitor to assess your heart's rhythm over 24 hours.
2. Lifestyle Modifications:
- Diet: Adopt a heart-healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Reducing sodium intake can help lower blood pressure.
- Exercise: Regular physical activity can help manage weight and lower blood pressure. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week.
- Stress Management: Techniques such as mindfulness, yoga, or deep-breathing exercises can help reduce stress and anxiety, which may contribute to your symptoms.
3. Monitor Your Blood Pressure: Keep track of your blood pressure readings at home. This information can be valuable for your healthcare provider in assessing your condition.
4. Hydration: Ensure you are adequately hydrated. If you're experiencing dry mouth and difficulty absorbing water, consider discussing this with your doctor, as it may require further evaluation.
5. Medication Review: If you are currently taking any medications, review them with your healthcare provider to ensure they are not contributing to your symptoms.
Conclusion
Your symptoms of high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, and excessive sweating are interconnected and could be indicative of underlying health issues that need to be addressed. By consulting a healthcare provider and making lifestyle changes, you can work towards managing your blood pressure and improving your overall health. Remember, early intervention is key to preventing more serious complications in the future.
