Testicular Health: Is an Irregular Shape Normal? - Urology

The right testicle feels less round and slightly irregular compared to the left one?

I have a friend who was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and he suggested that the male friends around him get checked.
I started to worry about whether I have any issues myself, especially since I often masturbate.
During a self-examination, I noticed that the left testicle has a very smooth oval shape and feels slightly soft when pressed.
On the other hand, the right testicle also feels slightly soft and can move, but its shape seems a bit irregular, although it is generally oval.
Additionally, there are several string-like structures attached to the right testicle.
Is this normal? I don't understand the anatomy of the testicles, so I'm concerned that the right testicle might be enlarged or have a problem.
I read online that it's normal for the right testicle to be slightly larger, but is it normal for the right one to have an irregular oval shape?

It is really not possible to answer this way; it is advisable to see a urologist for a urine test and to undergo a scrotal ultrasound examination.

When it comes to testicular health, it's essential to understand that the anatomy of the testicles can vary significantly from person to person. The testicles are typically oval-shaped and smooth, but slight irregularities in shape or texture can be normal. However, any noticeable changes, especially if they are accompanied by discomfort, pain, or other symptoms, should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

In your case, you mentioned that the left testicle feels smooth and oval, while the right testicle has an irregular shape and is surrounded by what you describe as "a bunch of stringy things." This could potentially refer to the epididymis, a coiled tube located behind each testicle that stores and matures sperm. The epididymis can sometimes feel like small, soft lumps or structures, and this is typically normal.

However, the irregular shape of the right testicle is concerning. While some asymmetry between the testicles is common, significant changes in shape, size, or texture can indicate underlying issues, including conditions such as testicular torsion, epididymitis, or even tumors. Testicular cancer, although relatively rare, is most common in younger men and can present as a lump or swelling in the testicle.
If you are feeling anxious about your testicular health, it is crucial to schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider. They can perform a physical examination and, if necessary, order imaging tests such as an ultrasound to assess the structure of your testicles. An ultrasound is a non-invasive procedure that can provide detailed images of the testicles and help identify any abnormalities.

In terms of self-examination, it is recommended to perform a testicular self-exam regularly, ideally once a month. This involves gently rolling each testicle between your thumb and fingers to feel for any lumps, changes in size, or irregularities. It’s best to do this after a warm shower when the scrotum is relaxed.

Regarding your concerns about frequent masturbation, it is generally considered a normal sexual activity and does not cause testicular cancer or other health issues. However, if you experience pain or discomfort during or after masturbation, it may be worth discussing with a healthcare professional.

In summary, while some irregularities in testicular shape can be normal, any significant changes or concerns should not be ignored. It is always better to err on the side of caution and consult with a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. Early detection and treatment of any potential issues can significantly improve outcomes, especially in cases of testicular cancer.
