There are small black bumps at the base of the penis?
I have three small black bumps at the base of my penis.
Could this be a case of follicular obstruction? They have been present for a while, are about 0.2 cm in size, and I noticed some itching a few days ago.
Now, they only itch when I touch them or when I wash with a bath towel.

Without actually seeing the lesion, it cannot be confirmed.
If it is very concerning, it is advisable to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

More Info
When it comes to small black bumps at the base of the penis, there are several potential causes to consider. The symptoms you describe, including the presence of small black bumps that have been around for a while and the recent onset of itching, could be indicative of a few different conditions.
One common possibility is folliculitis, which is an inflammation of the hair follicles. This can occur when hair follicles become blocked or infected, leading to small, raised bumps that may be red, inflamed, or itchy. In some cases, these bumps can appear dark due to the presence of hair or pigmentation. Folliculitis can be caused by various factors, including friction from clothing, improper hygiene, or even bacterial infections.
Another possibility is sebaceous cysts, which are non-cancerous lumps that can form under the skin. These cysts are typically filled with a fatty substance and can appear as small, round bumps. They are usually painless but can become itchy or uncomfortable if they become inflamed or infected.
Additionally, the presence of small black bumps could also be related to a condition known as pearly penile papules, which are harmless and typically appear as small, dome-shaped bumps around the corona of the glans. These are normal anatomical variations and do not require treatment unless they cause discomfort or concern.
Given that you mentioned the bumps have been present for some time and are now causing itching, it is essential to consider the possibility of a skin infection or another dermatological condition. Conditions such as eczema or psoriasis can also cause itching and may lead to the formation of bumps or lesions on the skin.
It is crucial to avoid self-diagnosing and to seek a professional evaluation from a healthcare provider, preferably a dermatologist or urologist. They can perform a physical examination and may recommend further testing, such as a skin scraping or biopsy, to determine the exact cause of the bumps and itching.
In the meantime, here are some general recommendations:
1. Maintain Good Hygiene: Keep the area clean and dry. Use mild soap and avoid harsh chemicals or fragrances that could irritate the skin.
2. Avoid Irritants: If you suspect that certain soaps, lotions, or fabrics may be causing irritation, try to eliminate them from your routine.
3. Do Not Scratch: While it may be tempting to scratch the itchy area, doing so can lead to further irritation or infection.
4. Wear Loose Clothing: Opt for breathable fabrics to reduce friction and irritation in the genital area.
5. Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in the bumps, such as increased size, color changes, or the development of additional symptoms like pain or discharge.
In conclusion, while small black bumps at the base of the penis can be benign, the presence of itching and the duration of the bumps warrant a professional evaluation. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can help alleviate discomfort and address any underlying issues effectively.
