Symptoms such as dizziness and numbness in the hands?
Hello Doctor: In the past week, I have often felt a sensation of pressure in my head after walking just a few steps.
My eyes, temples, neck, and throat feel very tight, and my legs feel light while walking.
This sensation lasts for a few seconds and then disappears.
Additionally, my hands feel numb and cold, and my toes are slightly numb as well.
I feel very uncomfortable and am worried that I might have a serious illness.
Could you please advise me on which direction I should take for medical attention? Thank you~~

Based on your description, your issue seems to be dizziness characterized by a sensation of heaviness in the head and lightness in the feet, accompanied by cold and numbness in the limbs.
These symptoms have been intermittent over the past week.
Possible causes include: 1.
Anemia 2.
Excessive stress or anxiety 3.
If the symptoms "worsen over time without relief," it is important to monitor for acute polyneuropathy 4.
Circulatory issues in the limbs.
I recommend visiting a family medicine or neurology clinic for evaluation and clarification of the underlying cause.

Dizziness and numbness can be concerning symptoms that may indicate underlying neurological issues. Based on your description, it sounds like you are experiencing a combination of sensations that could be related to various conditions. The symptoms you mentioned—feeling of pressure in the head, tightness in the neck and throat, lightness in the legs, and numbness in the hands and feet—could be indicative of several potential issues, ranging from benign to more serious.
Firstly, it’s important to understand that dizziness can arise from a variety of causes. These can include vestibular disorders (related to the inner ear), neurological conditions, anxiety, or even cardiovascular issues. The tightness you feel in your neck and throat could suggest muscle tension, which is often associated with stress or anxiety. However, it could also be related to cervical spine issues or even vascular problems.
The numbness in your hands and feet, along with the sensation of coldness, could indicate peripheral neuropathy, which is often caused by conditions such as diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, or nerve compression. It’s also possible that these symptoms could be related to a transient ischemic attack (TIA), which is often referred to as a "mini-stroke." TIAs can present with sudden dizziness, numbness, or weakness, and they require immediate medical attention.
Given the combination of symptoms you are experiencing, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly. A neurologist would be the appropriate specialist to consult in this case. They can perform a thorough evaluation, which may include a neurological examination, imaging studies (like an MRI or CT scan), and possibly blood tests to rule out conditions such as diabetes or vitamin deficiencies.
In the meantime, it may be helpful to keep a symptom diary. Note when the symptoms occur, their duration, and any potential triggers (such as stress, physical activity, or dietary factors). This information can be valuable for your healthcare provider in making a diagnosis.
Additionally, if you experience any of the following symptoms, seek emergency medical care immediately:
- Sudden severe headache
- Weakness or numbness on one side of the body
- Difficulty speaking or understanding speech
- Vision changes
- Loss of balance or coordination
These could be signs of a more serious condition that requires urgent intervention.
In summary, while your symptoms may be due to a variety of causes, it is crucial to take them seriously. Consulting with a neurologist will help determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment. Early intervention can often lead to better outcomes, so don’t hesitate to seek help. Remember, your health is paramount, and addressing these symptoms sooner rather than later is the best course of action.
