There are small, pimple-like bumps on the mucosa inside the lower lip?
Hello! I would like to ask about small, pimple-like bumps on the inner mucosa of my lower lip.
They are very small (less than 0.1mm) and feel a bit rough when I touch them with my tongue.
I hadn't noticed them before and I'm unsure if they have always been there or if they have developed recently.
Should I see a doctor?

When it comes to small bumps on the inner lip, it's understandable to feel concerned, especially if they are new or have changed in appearance. The bumps you describe, resembling tiny pimples and feeling rough to the touch, could be caused by a variety of factors. While some conditions may be benign, others could require medical attention.
Firstly, it's important to consider the possibility of common conditions that can cause such bumps. One possibility is Fordyce spots, which are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the inner lips and are actually enlarged sebaceous glands. They are harmless and do not require treatment. Another common cause could be mucoceles, which are fluid-filled cysts that can form when a salivary gland becomes blocked. These are also generally harmless but may need to be drained if they become bothersome.
However, if the bumps are new, changing, or accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, swelling, or changes in color, it may be wise to consult a healthcare professional. Conditions such as oral herpes, which can present as small blisters or sores, or even oral thrush, which is a fungal infection, could also manifest as bumps in the mouth. Additionally, certain allergic reactions or irritations from food, dental products, or oral hygiene products can lead to similar symptoms.
In terms of seeking medical advice, if you are feeling uncertain or anxious about the bumps, it's always better to err on the side of caution. A visit to a dentist or an oral health specialist can provide you with a thorough examination and a definitive diagnosis. They can assess the bumps and determine if any treatment is necessary or if they are simply a benign condition.
When you do visit a doctor, it may be helpful to provide them with as much information as possible. Mention when you first noticed the bumps, any changes in size or appearance, and whether you have experienced any other symptoms. This information can assist the healthcare provider in making an accurate diagnosis.
In summary, while small bumps on the inner lip can often be harmless, it's important to monitor them and seek medical advice if you have any concerns. A healthcare professional can provide reassurance and guidance, ensuring that any underlying issues are addressed appropriately. Remember, your oral health is an important aspect of your overall well-being, and taking proactive steps to address any changes is always a good practice.
