Dear Pei, I suggest you see a neurologist or an endocrinologist for an examination.

Hand tremors can be a concerning symptom, especially when they appear suddenly or change in intensity. Understanding the potential causes and solutions for hand tremors is essential for managing this condition effectively.
Causes of Hand Tremors
1. Essential Tremor: This is one of the most common causes of hand tremors. It is a neurological disorder that causes rhythmic shaking, typically in the hands, but it can also affect the head, voice, and other body parts. Essential tremor often runs in families and may worsen with stress, fatigue, or caffeine intake.
2. Parkinson’s Disease: This progressive neurological disorder can lead to tremors, particularly at rest. In addition to tremors, other symptoms may include stiffness, slowness of movement, and balance problems.
3. Anxiety and Stress: High levels of anxiety or stress can lead to temporary tremors. This is often due to the body's fight-or-flight response, which can cause muscle tension and shaking.
4. Medications: Certain medications, especially those that affect the nervous system, can cause tremors as a side effect. This includes some antidepressants, asthma medications, and stimulants.
5. Hyperthyroidism: An overactive thyroid can lead to increased metabolism and symptoms such as tremors, weight loss, and increased heart rate.
6. Alcohol Withdrawal: Individuals who are dependent on alcohol may experience tremors during withdrawal. This is often referred to as "delirium tremens" in severe cases.
7. Neurological Conditions: Other conditions affecting the brain, such as multiple sclerosis or stroke, can also lead to tremors.
8. Fatigue or Overexertion: Physical fatigue or overexertion can lead to temporary muscle tremors. This is often seen in individuals who have engaged in strenuous activity without adequate rest.
Solutions for Hand Tremors
1. Consult a Healthcare Professional: If you are experiencing new or worsening tremors, it is crucial to consult a healthcare provider. They can perform a thorough evaluation, including a physical examination and possibly imaging studies or blood tests, to determine the underlying cause.
2. Medication: Depending on the cause of the tremors, medications may be prescribed. For essential tremor, beta-blockers or anti-seizure medications may be effective. For tremors related to Parkinson’s disease, dopaminergic medications can help manage symptoms.
3. Lifestyle Modifications:
- Stress Management: Techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, and yoga can help reduce anxiety and stress, which may alleviate tremors.
- Limit Caffeine and Alcohol: Reducing or eliminating caffeine and alcohol can help decrease tremor severity.
- Adequate Rest: Ensure you are getting enough sleep and taking breaks during activities to prevent fatigue-related tremors.
4. Physical Therapy: Engaging in physical therapy can help improve muscle control and coordination, which may reduce the impact of tremors on daily activities.
5. Assistive Devices: In some cases, using weighted utensils or adaptive devices can help manage tremors during tasks such as eating or writing.
6. Dietary Considerations: A balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals can support overall neurological health. Some individuals find that certain dietary changes can help reduce tremors.
7. Regular Follow-Up: If you have a diagnosed condition that causes tremors, regular follow-up with your healthcare provider is essential to monitor your symptoms and adjust treatment as necessary.
In conclusion, hand tremors can arise from various causes, ranging from benign conditions like essential tremor to more serious neurological disorders. Identifying the underlying cause is crucial for effective management. If you are experiencing hand tremors, it is advisable to seek medical attention to determine the appropriate course of action tailored to your specific situation.
