Circumcision?
Two weeks ago, I had a circumcision.
Now, two weeks later, there is a ring of swelling behind the glans that looks like a donut.
Is this normal? I still have some medication left and there is still some discomfort.

More Info
After undergoing a circumcision, it is not uncommon to experience some swelling and discomfort in the area for a period of time. Generally, the healing process can vary from person to person, but it is typical to have some degree of swelling, redness, and tenderness around the surgical site for up to a few weeks post-operation.
In your case, having swelling around the glans (the head of the penis) two weeks after the procedure can be considered normal, especially if it appears as a ring-like swelling similar to a "swimming ring." This swelling is often a result of the body's natural inflammatory response to surgery. The tissues in the area are healing, and this can lead to temporary swelling as blood flow increases to promote healing.
However, it is important to monitor the swelling and any accompanying symptoms. If the swelling is accompanied by severe pain, increased redness, warmth, or discharge (especially if it is pus-like), these could be signs of an infection, and you should seek medical attention promptly. Additionally, if the swelling does not begin to subside after a few weeks or if it worsens, it would be prudent to consult your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
In terms of care post-circumcision, it is essential to follow your doctor's instructions regarding hygiene and any prescribed medications. Keeping the area clean and dry is crucial to prevent infections. If you have been prescribed antibiotics or pain relief medications, ensure that you complete the course as directed.
The healing process after circumcision typically involves several stages. Initially, there may be swelling and bruising, which should gradually decrease over time. The stitches (if used) will dissolve on their own, and the skin will begin to heal. Full healing can take several weeks to a couple of months, depending on individual factors such as overall health, age, and adherence to post-operative care instructions.
In summary, mild swelling two weeks after circumcision can be normal, but it is essential to keep an eye on the symptoms and consult your doctor if you have any concerns. Proper post-operative care and monitoring will help ensure a smooth recovery. If you experience any unusual symptoms or if the swelling persists, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance.
