Chest pain
Last year's health check revealed ventricular hypertrophy and elongated mitral valve (not angina), and I was advised not to take medication.
Recently, I've been experiencing rapid heartbeat and shortness of breath, along with pain in the lower right side of my heart.
Even light touch on my nipple causes pain! I initially thought a good night's sleep would help, but I woke up the next day with no improvement.
What could be the cause of this?

Hello, you should pay attention to your diet and avoid foods and beverages with high caffeine content; be mindful not to stay up late or sleep too late; managing your stress and emotions on your own should help alleviate the symptoms.

Understanding heart pain can be complex, especially when there are underlying conditions such as ventricular hypertrophy and mitral valve elongation. Your symptoms of rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, and localized pain in the right lower area of the heart, along with tenderness when lightly touching the area, warrant careful consideration.
Firstly, ventricular hypertrophy, which is the thickening of the heart's ventricular walls, can occur due to various factors, including high blood pressure, heart valve disease, or increased physical demand on the heart. While it is not uncommon for young individuals to experience some degree of heart muscle thickening, it is essential to monitor this condition closely, especially if you are experiencing new or worsening symptoms.
The mitral valve elongation you mentioned is another important factor. This condition can lead to mitral valve prolapse, where the valve does not close properly, potentially causing blood to leak backward into the left atrium. While this may not always lead to significant symptoms, it can sometimes result in palpitations, chest pain, or even shortness of breath, particularly during physical exertion or stress.
Your recent experiences of rapid heartbeat and shortness of breath could be attributed to several factors. Stress and anxiety can significantly impact heart function, leading to increased heart rate and feelings of breathlessness. Additionally, if you have been less active recently or have experienced emotional distress, these factors can exacerbate your symptoms. The pain you feel in the right lower area of your heart could also be related to musculoskeletal issues, especially if it worsens with movement or pressure.
It is crucial to consider that heart pain can sometimes be referred from other areas, such as the lungs or gastrointestinal tract. Conditions like costochondritis (inflammation of the cartilage connecting the ribs to the sternum) or even gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD) can mimic heart pain. The tenderness you feel when touching the area could suggest a musculoskeletal origin rather than a direct cardiac issue.
Given that your symptoms have persisted and are causing concern, it is advisable to seek further evaluation from a healthcare professional. A thorough examination, including an electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiogram, and possibly a stress test, can help determine the underlying cause of your symptoms. Additionally, monitoring your blood pressure and heart rate during these episodes can provide valuable information.
In the meantime, consider adopting lifestyle changes that may help alleviate your symptoms. Regular physical activity, even light exercise, can improve cardiovascular health and reduce stress. Practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga can also be beneficial. Furthermore, maintaining a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can support overall heart health.
In conclusion, while your symptoms may be related to your known heart conditions, they could also stem from anxiety, stress, or musculoskeletal issues. It is essential to consult with a healthcare provider to ensure a comprehensive assessment and appropriate management of your symptoms. Taking proactive steps towards a healthier lifestyle can also contribute positively to your heart health and overall well-being.
