Itching of the glans?

I'm not sure if it's related, but I've recently been having sexual intercourse more frequently, and I've noticed that after these activities, my partner feels too dry, which has led to the glans being irritated and possibly chafed (that's how it feels to me).
One side of the glans appears to be its normal color, while the other side is bright red.
Sometimes I also see a white film on the glans; is this a sign of skin growth?

Without actually seeing the lesion, it is impossible to determine.
If it is very concerning, please seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Itchy glans, or the head of the penis, can be a distressing condition that may arise from various causes. Understanding the underlying reasons and potential solutions is crucial for effective management.

Causes of Itchy Glans
1. Irritation or Friction: Frequent sexual activity, especially if lubrication is inadequate, can lead to friction and irritation of the glans. This can result in redness, discomfort, and even minor abrasions. If you notice that the glans feels dry or irritated after intercourse, it may be due to insufficient lubrication during sexual activity.

2. Infections: Fungal infections, such as candidiasis (thrush), can cause itching and a white, cottage cheese-like discharge. Bacterial infections or sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can also lead to similar symptoms. If the white film you observe is persistent and accompanied by other symptoms like discharge or an unusual odor, it may indicate an infection.

3. Dermatitis: Contact dermatitis can occur due to sensitivity to soaps, detergents, or personal care products. If you have recently changed any products that come into contact with the genital area, this could be a potential cause.

4. Poor Hygiene: Inadequate cleaning of the genital area can lead to the accumulation of smegma (a combination of dead skin cells and oils), which can cause irritation and itching.

5. Skin Conditions: Conditions like psoriasis or eczema can also affect the genital area, leading to redness, itching, and flaking skin.

Solutions and Recommendations
1. Improving Lubrication: If friction during sexual activity is a concern, consider using a water-based or silicone-based lubricant. This can help reduce irritation and prevent dryness.

2. Hygiene Practices: Maintain good hygiene by gently washing the genital area with mild soap and water. Ensure that the area is thoroughly dried afterward. Avoid using harsh soaps or products that may irritate the skin.

3. Avoid Irritants: Identify and eliminate any potential irritants, such as scented soaps, lotions, or laundry detergents. Opt for hypoallergenic products designed for sensitive skin.

4. Monitor for Infections: If you suspect an infection, particularly if you notice unusual discharge, persistent redness, or swelling, it is essential to consult a healthcare provider. They may perform tests to identify the cause and prescribe appropriate treatment, such as antifungal or antibiotic medications.

5. Avoid Sexual Activity: If you experience significant discomfort or irritation, consider abstaining from sexual activity until the symptoms resolve. This can help prevent further irritation and allow the area to heal.

6. Consult a Specialist: If symptoms persist despite self-care measures, or if you notice any concerning changes, such as the development of sores or lesions, seek medical advice. A urologist or dermatologist can provide a thorough examination and recommend targeted treatments.

Conclusion
Itchy glans can result from a variety of factors, including irritation, infections, and skin conditions. By addressing potential causes such as friction, hygiene, and irritants, you can often alleviate symptoms. However, if the issue persists or worsens, it is crucial to seek medical attention to rule out infections or other underlying conditions. Remember, maintaining open communication with your healthcare provider is key to managing any concerns related to sexual health effectively.
