Is it normal to experience no pain and minimal blood clots after taking RU486?

On June 4th at 7 PM, I took RU486, but I didn't experience much reaction or discomfort.
The next day, I had a little bit of bleeding, very minimal.
On June 6th at 5 PM, I took two doses of prostaglandin.
Initially, there were no reactions, but around 7 PM, I started to have blood clots, some abdominal cramping, and mild discomfort.
However, the blood clots only occurred once, and afterward, the bleeding resembled a menstrual flow but was not heavy.
Now, on June 7th at 4 PM, I took the last dose of prostaglandin.
After 6 PM, I started to feel some abdominal pain and a bit of nausea, but there was only bleeding without any blood clots.
Is this normal? If the bleeding is not complete, should I continue taking prostaglandin? I've seen many people online report significant pain after taking it, but I haven't experienced that.
Is this unusual?

Hello, it should be considered relatively normal; however, it is essential to return to the obstetrics and gynecology department for follow-up to ensure that everything has been completely cleared.
Wishing you good health.

After taking RU486 (mifepristone) and the subsequent prostaglandin, it is not uncommon to experience a range of symptoms, including mild pain and some bleeding. Your experience of having little pain and only a few blood clots can be considered within the normal spectrum of reactions to this medication, but it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely.

RU486 is primarily used for medical abortion, and it works by blocking the hormone progesterone, which is necessary for pregnancy to continue. After taking RU486, the prostaglandin (usually misoprostol) is administered to induce contractions of the uterus, leading to the expulsion of the pregnancy tissue. The timing and intensity of symptoms can vary significantly among individuals. Some may experience strong cramping and heavy bleeding, while others may have milder symptoms, as you've described.

The presence of light bleeding and mild discomfort is typical, especially after taking the prostaglandin. It is important to note that the amount of bleeding can vary widely; some women may experience heavy bleeding with numerous clots, while others may have lighter bleeding that resembles a menstrual period. The key is to ensure that the bleeding does not become excessively heavy (soaking through a pad in an hour or less) and that you are not experiencing severe pain that is unmanageable.

Regarding your concern about whether you should continue taking the prostaglandin if you are not experiencing significant symptoms, it is crucial to follow your healthcare provider's instructions. If your doctor prescribed additional doses of prostaglandin, it is likely because they want to ensure that the uterine contents are expelled completely. If you have any doubts or if your symptoms change (such as increased pain or heavy bleeding), you should contact your healthcare provider immediately for guidance.

It is also worth mentioning that everyone's body reacts differently to these medications. Some women may have a more intense experience, while others may have a relatively mild one. Factors such as the stage of pregnancy, individual pain tolerance, and overall health can influence how one experiences the process.

In summary, experiencing mild pain and light bleeding after taking RU486 and prostaglandin can be normal. However, it is essential to stay in touch with your healthcare provider, especially if you have concerns about the completeness of the abortion or if your symptoms change. They can provide personalized advice and ensure that you are monitored appropriately throughout this process. Always prioritize your health and well-being, and do not hesitate to seek medical attention if you feel uncertain or uncomfortable with your symptoms.
