Missed menstruation?

I have been menstruating for three years, but now I haven't had my period for three months.
I have been taking traditional Chinese medicine for two weeks, but still no period.
Two weeks ago, I had an X-ray examination, and they said my uterus is smaller.
After taking Western medicine, my bowel movements have been irregular.
Could this be cancer? I also rarely drink cold beverages, but I wake up with a dull pain in my abdomen.
My bowel movements are normal.

Missed periods, especially for an extended duration like three months, can be concerning and may indicate various underlying health issues. In your case, the absence of menstruation, known medically as amenorrhea, can be attributed to several factors, including hormonal imbalances, structural abnormalities, lifestyle factors, and even stress.
Firstly, hormonal imbalances are one of the most common causes of missed periods. The menstrual cycle is regulated by a complex interplay of hormones, including estrogen and progesterone. If there is a disruption in the hormonal balance, it can lead to irregularities in the menstrual cycle or even a complete cessation of menstruation. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, and hyperprolactinemia can all contribute to hormonal imbalances that affect menstruation.

Secondly, structural issues within the reproductive system can also lead to missed periods. For instance, conditions such as uterine fibroids, polyps, or even endometriosis can affect the menstrual cycle. You mentioned that an X-ray indicated a smaller uterus, which could be a sign of a structural issue that may need further investigation through ultrasound or other imaging techniques.

Lifestyle factors, including diet, exercise, and stress levels, can also significantly impact menstrual health. For example, excessive weight loss, extreme exercise, or significant stress can lead to missed periods. You mentioned experiencing abdominal discomfort and changes in bowel habits after taking medication, which could indicate that your body is reacting to the treatment or that there is an underlying gastrointestinal issue that needs to be addressed.

Regarding your concerns about cancer, while it is natural to worry about serious conditions when experiencing unusual symptoms, it is essential to approach this with a level-headed perspective. Cancer can cause changes in menstrual patterns, but it is not the only explanation. The symptoms you describe, such as abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits, should be evaluated by a healthcare professional to rule out any serious conditions.

Given that you have already tried traditional Chinese medicine without success and are experiencing ongoing symptoms, it is crucial to seek further evaluation from a healthcare provider. A gynecologist can perform a thorough assessment, which may include blood tests to check hormone levels, imaging studies to evaluate the reproductive organs, and possibly a pelvic exam to assess for any abnormalities.

In summary, while missed periods can be alarming, they can result from various factors, including hormonal imbalances, structural issues, lifestyle changes, and stress. It is essential to consult with a healthcare professional who can provide a comprehensive evaluation and appropriate treatment options. Early intervention can help address any underlying issues and restore your menstrual health. Remember, your health is paramount, and seeking help is a crucial step in understanding and managing your symptoms effectively.
