Menstruation has not occurred for two months?

For the past two years, my menstrual cycle has been very regular, but I have not had a period for the last two consecutive months.
My lifestyle has not changed significantly, and I have not engaged in sexual activity for at least a year, so pregnancy is not a possibility.
My overall health is normal, and there are no unusual symptoms.
Currently, I am not in Taiwan and cannot consult a gynecologist for an examination.
I am wondering if there might be any possible reasons for this situation and if there are ways to improve it.
Thank you.

MC delay does not necessarily indicate illness.
However, if there is a sudden delay of more than three months, it is advisable to seek medical attention.

Missed periods can be concerning, especially when they have been regular for an extended period. There are several potential causes for missed periods, and understanding these can help you determine the next steps to take.
Firstly, it’s important to note that missed periods, or amenorrhea, can occur for various reasons, even in the absence of pregnancy. Since you mentioned that you have not had any sexual activity for over a year, pregnancy is unlikely. Here are some common causes of missed periods:
1. Hormonal Imbalances: The menstrual cycle is regulated by a complex interplay of hormones. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders (hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism), or other hormonal imbalances can disrupt your cycle and lead to missed periods.

2. Stress: Psychological stress can significantly impact your menstrual cycle. High levels of stress can lead to hormonal changes that may cause your periods to become irregular or stop altogether.

3. Weight Changes: Significant weight loss or gain can affect your menstrual cycle. Low body weight, particularly in athletes or those with eating disorders, can lead to missed periods due to a lack of body fat necessary for hormone production.

4. Lifestyle Factors: Changes in your lifestyle, such as increased physical activity, changes in diet, or alterations in sleep patterns, can also lead to missed periods. You mentioned that your lifestyle has not changed significantly, but even subtle changes can have an impact.

5. Medical Conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes or chronic illnesses, can affect your menstrual cycle. Additionally, conditions affecting the reproductive organs, such as uterine fibroids or endometriosis, may also lead to irregularities.

6. Medications: Some medications, particularly hormonal contraceptives or medications that affect hormone levels, can cause missed periods. If you are taking any medications, it’s worth considering their potential side effects.

Given that you are currently outside of Taiwan and unable to see a gynecologist, there are a few steps you can take to monitor your situation:
- Keep a Record: Track your menstrual cycle, including any symptoms you may experience, such as mood changes, weight fluctuations, or stress levels. This information can be helpful for a healthcare provider when you are able to consult one.

- Lifestyle Adjustments: Consider evaluating your lifestyle for any stressors or changes that may have occurred. Engaging in stress-reducing activities such as yoga, meditation, or regular exercise can be beneficial.

- Nutrition: Ensure you are maintaining a balanced diet that supports your overall health. Nutritional deficiencies can also impact hormonal balance.

- Consult a Healthcare Provider: If your period does not return soon, or if you experience other concerning symptoms (such as severe pain, unusual discharge, or significant weight changes), it is important to seek medical advice. Many healthcare providers offer telehealth services, which could be a convenient option for you.

In conclusion, while there are many potential causes for missed periods, it is essential to monitor your health and seek professional advice when possible. Understanding your body and its signals is crucial, and addressing any underlying issues can help restore your menstrual cycle to its regular rhythm.
