Wisdom tooth suture white bump
Hello, Doctor.
I had my lower left wisdom tooth extracted on Monday, and the doctor also stitched it up with three sutures.
The bleeding has stopped, and the pain is minimal now.
1.
I would like to know why my left side teeth feel a bit numb and sore by Wednesday.
2.
Additionally, on Wednesday, I noticed a small white bump on top of the sutures.
I have been brushing my teeth and rinsing my mouth gently for the past few days, but I haven't touched the wound.
I'm not sure what that could be.

Hello, during the process of wisdom tooth extraction, it is common to also perform bone and gum adjustments, so it is normal to experience sensitivity or numbness in the nearby teeth in the short term.
It is advisable to continue monitoring the situation.
Additionally, the small white protrusion may just be food debris lodged there.
Please return to your original clinic for further observation.
Thank you.

After having a wisdom tooth extraction, it's common to experience a variety of sensations and changes in the mouth, including numbness and the appearance of unusual bumps or spots. Let's address your concerns regarding the numbness and the white bump you noticed after your procedure.
1. Numbness and Tingling Sensation: The numbness or tingling sensation you are experiencing in the area around the extracted tooth is not unusual. During the extraction process, the dentist may have manipulated the surrounding tissues, which can temporarily affect the nerves in that area. The inferior alveolar nerve, which runs close to the lower wisdom teeth, can sometimes be impacted during extraction, leading to sensations of numbness or tingling. This is typically a temporary condition, and most patients find that the sensation resolves within a few days to weeks as the nerve heals. However, if the numbness persists or worsens, it is advisable to consult your dentist for further evaluation.
2. White Bump on the Suture Line: The white bump you observed on the suture line could be a few different things. One possibility is that it is a small accumulation of food debris or plaque that has become trapped in the sutures. This can happen even if you are careful while brushing and rinsing. Another possibility is that it could be a small piece of granulation tissue, which is a normal part of the healing process. Granulation tissue is a type of connective tissue that forms during the healing of wounds and can appear as a white or yellowish bump. In some cases, it may also be a sign of infection, especially if accompanied by increased pain, swelling, or discharge.
It’s important to maintain good oral hygiene during your recovery, but be gentle around the extraction site to avoid irritation. If the bump does not resolve on its own within a few days or if you notice any signs of infection (such as increased pain, swelling, or fever), you should return to your dentist for an evaluation. They may need to clean the area or provide additional treatment if necessary.
In summary, while numbness and the appearance of a white bump can be concerning, they are often part of the normal healing process following a wisdom tooth extraction. However, if you have any doubts or if symptoms persist, it is always best to consult with your dentist for personalized advice and care. They can provide a thorough examination and determine if any further action is needed to ensure a smooth recovery.
