Menstrual issues
Doctor, due to work-related factors, I was only able to sleep three to four hours almost every day for the past two weeks, and one day I even only slept for one hour.
I have been under a lot of stress, and my physical energy has been severely depleted during the day.
After work, I experienced flu-like symptoms and had a high fever.
I completed a full course of antiviral medication and cold medicine.
Before work, I was intimate with my boyfriend; he first stimulated me, and then I stimulated him until he ejaculated.
Afterward, we both cleaned ourselves and did not touch each other's private areas again.
However, while he was stimulating me, his underwear came into contact with my underwear (both were wet, and he had not ejaculated yet, only had pre-ejaculate).
As a result, my period came five days early this time.
Although the first two days had a normal flow, by the third day, it decreased significantly (the amount on the third day was what I would normally expect on the fourth day).
After that, I continued to have light bleeding, but it was not heavy.
The bleeding ended on the seventh day, which was the same duration as my usual menstrual cycle.
Is this menstrual irregularity caused by work stress, or could I be pregnant? Thank you, doctor, for your guidance.

Hello, the chances of pregnancy are low; it is likely a menstrual irregularity.
You should not rely on the safe period.
Wishing you good health.

Menstrual irregularities can be a source of concern for many women, especially when they are accompanied by stress, sleep deprivation, and other health issues. In your case, the combination of high stress from work, inadequate sleep, and recent illness may have contributed to the changes in your menstrual cycle.
Firstly, it's important to understand that stress can significantly impact the menstrual cycle. The body responds to stress by releasing hormones such as cortisol, which can disrupt the normal hormonal balance that regulates menstruation. This disruption can lead to changes in the timing of your period, as well as the flow and duration. In your situation, the high levels of stress you experienced, coupled with insufficient sleep, could very well be the reason for your period arriving earlier than expected and exhibiting changes in flow.
Sleep is another critical factor that influences menstrual health. Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to hormonal imbalances, which may affect ovulation and the menstrual cycle. When you mentioned that you were only getting three to four hours of sleep per night, this lack of rest could have compounded the effects of stress on your body, further contributing to menstrual irregularities.
Regarding your concerns about pregnancy, the scenario you described—intimate contact with your boyfriend—does carry a slight risk of pregnancy, particularly if there was any transfer of pre-ejaculate fluid. However, if you have had a normal menstrual period, even if it was slightly irregular, it is less likely that you are pregnant. Menstrual cycles can vary for many reasons, including stress, illness, and hormonal fluctuations, and it is not uncommon for periods to be affected by these factors.
If your period was only slightly irregular and you experienced a normal flow for the first couple of days, followed by a lighter flow, this could be attributed to the stress and health issues you faced rather than pregnancy. However, if you have any doubts or if your symptoms persist, it would be wise to take a home pregnancy test or consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation.
In conclusion, the changes in your menstrual cycle are likely a result of the stress and sleep deprivation you experienced, rather than an indication of pregnancy. It is essential to prioritize self-care, manage stress levels, and ensure you are getting adequate rest. If your menstrual irregularities continue or if you have further concerns, seeking medical advice would be beneficial. A healthcare professional can provide personalized guidance and support, ensuring that both your physical and mental health are addressed during this time.
