Menstruation is delayed by 6 days?

Hello, I engaged in manual stimulation with my boyfriend on the 11th and 12th, but there was no penetration; we only had friction through our underwear, and he did not ejaculate.
His fingers did touch my prostate and then he wiped them before touching my vaginal opening.
I understand that the likelihood of pregnancy in this situation is very low.
However, two to three days later, my period only lasted for one day and was very light, followed by discharge.
Is it possible that I could be pregnant? I've been under a lot of stress and staying up late every day recently.

Ashly, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2016/08/20

Hello Miss Ashly: I understand your situation.
The likelihood of pregnancy should be low, but if you are still concerned, it would be a good idea to take a urine test.
High stress and late nights can often lead to menstrual irregularities, which is quite common and can cause delayed periods.

More Info

Late periods can indeed indicate pregnancy, but they can also be caused by a variety of other factors. In your case, the circumstances you described—engaging in sexual activity without penetration and the subsequent short and light menstrual flow—suggest that the likelihood of pregnancy is very low. However, let's explore this further.

Firstly, it's important to understand how pregnancy occurs. For pregnancy to happen, sperm must fertilize an egg, which typically occurs during vaginal intercourse when sperm is deposited in the vagina. In your situation, since there was no penetration and no ejaculation, the chances of sperm reaching the vagina are minimal. Even if there was some transfer of sperm from your boyfriend's fingers, the likelihood of it leading to pregnancy is still very low, especially given the timing of your menstrual cycle.

The menstrual cycle can be influenced by various factors, including stress, changes in routine, and health conditions. Stress, in particular, can have a significant impact on your menstrual cycle. High levels of stress can lead to hormonal imbalances that may cause your period to be delayed, lighter, or even skipped altogether. Additionally, lifestyle factors such as lack of sleep and changes in diet can also affect your menstrual cycle. Since you mentioned that you have been under a lot of stress and have been staying up late, these could be contributing factors to your irregular menstrual pattern.

Regarding the light bleeding you experienced, it is possible that this could be a form of breakthrough bleeding or an irregular period rather than an indication of pregnancy. Breakthrough bleeding can occur due to hormonal fluctuations, especially if you have been experiencing stress or changes in your routine. It is also worth noting that some women experience light spotting or bleeding in early pregnancy, but this is typically accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea or breast tenderness.

If you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, the most reliable way to confirm or rule it out is through a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is produced during pregnancy. If you take a test and it is negative, and your period does not return to normal, it may be a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider. They can help determine if there are any underlying issues that need to be addressed.

In summary, while a late period can indicate pregnancy, the specific circumstances you described suggest that the likelihood of pregnancy is very low. Stress and lifestyle factors are more likely to be the cause of your irregular menstrual cycle. If you continue to experience irregularities or have concerns about your reproductive health, seeking medical advice is always a good step. Your healthcare provider can offer personalized guidance and support based on your individual situation.
