Post-surgery bleeding from the nipple after papilloma removal?

Hello, doctor! I have been diagnosed with a 0.9 cm papilloma, and the doctor recommended surgical removal.
After the surgery, it was confirmed to be a benign papilloma, and I was informed that I only need to have regular follow-ups once a year.
However, after the surgery, there was a significant amount of bruising around the incision.
One week post-surgery, the incision site no longer hurt, but suddenly the nipple on that side started to hurt.
I initially thought it might be due to ovulation, but after observing for a week, the pain persisted, and I noticed a small amount of bleeding from the center of the nipple, which disappeared after I showered.
I understand that papillomas can cause nipple bleeding, but could it still cause bleeding after I have already had the surgery? I never experienced any bleeding from the nipple before the surgery...

Hello! After surgery, it is common to experience pain at the incision site and surrounding areas, and the level of discomfort varies from person to person.
Sometimes, pain may persist for two to three weeks.
A papilloma grows from the epithelial cells of the lactiferous ducts.
After removal, if there is a small amount of bleeding from the nipple, it can be monitored; however, if there is significant bleeding, a follow-up appointment is necessary.

After undergoing surgery for a papilloma, it is understandable to have concerns regarding post-operative symptoms such as nipple bleeding, pain, and bruising. Your experience of having a 0.9 cm papilloma removed, followed by the presence of bruising and subsequent nipple pain, is not uncommon. Let’s break down your concerns and provide some clarity based on medical knowledge.

Firstly, it’s important to recognize that surgical procedures, even those deemed minimally invasive, can lead to a variety of post-operative symptoms. The presence of bruising around the surgical site is a typical response to trauma, as blood vessels may be damaged during the procedure, leading to localized bleeding under the skin. This bruising can take time to resolve, often several weeks, depending on individual healing processes.

Regarding the pain you are experiencing in the nipple area, it is also a common post-operative symptom. Surgical interventions can cause irritation or inflammation of the surrounding tissues, which may lead to discomfort or pain. This pain can persist for a few weeks after surgery, and while it may be alarming, it is often part of the healing process. However, if the pain is severe or worsening, it is advisable to consult your healthcare provider.

The occurrence of slight bleeding from the nipple after surgery can be concerning, especially since you did not experience any bleeding prior to the procedure. While it is possible for a papilloma to cause nipple discharge or bleeding, post-surgical bleeding can also occur due to several factors. After surgery, the area may still be healing, and minor bleeding can happen as the tissues adjust and recover. If the bleeding is minimal and resolves quickly, it may not be a cause for alarm. However, if you notice persistent or significant bleeding, it is crucial to seek medical attention to rule out any complications, such as infection or improper healing.

In your case, since you mentioned that the bleeding appears to stop after bathing, it could be related to the changes in pressure or temperature affecting the area. Warm water can cause blood vessels to dilate, potentially leading to temporary bleeding. Nonetheless, it is essential to monitor the situation closely.

In summary, while some degree of pain, bruising, and minor bleeding can be expected after papilloma removal, it is vital to maintain open communication with your healthcare provider. If you have any concerns about the severity of your symptoms or if they persist beyond what is considered normal, do not hesitate to reach out for further evaluation. Regular follow-ups are crucial in ensuring proper healing and addressing any complications that may arise. Your health and peace of mind are paramount, so staying proactive about your recovery is essential.
