How to Reduce Height: Seeking Solutions for Back Pain and Bone Issues - Orthopedics

Methods to Become Shorter

When I graduated from college, I was 168 cm tall, but at the age of 24, I measured 170 cm.
The only connection I can think of is that I underwent chiropractic treatment twice during that period.
I don't particularly like being taller, so I would like to ask the doctor if there are any methods to reduce my height.
Additionally, my hip bones are particularly prominent, which seems to be the most noticeable bone in my lower body, possibly indicating an issue with hip widening.
It feels like my left leg is longer (I can especially feel the difference when walking), which often leads to lower back pain.
I would like to ask the doctor how I can improve these issues.
I hope the doctor can assist with both questions!

A height of 170 centimeters is a dream for many girls.
Enjoy your height of 170 centimeters and be aware of any perceived leg length discrepancies.
It is advisable to visit an orthopedic clinic to measure the length of both legs, and if necessary, to get an X-ray.
If you experience lower back pain, avoid lifting heavy objects frequently and maintain proper posture while sitting.

Reducing height is not a medically recognized or feasible option. Height is primarily determined by genetics and the growth plates in the bones, which typically close after puberty. Once these growth plates have fused, there are no surgical or medical interventions that can effectively reduce a person's height. The desire to reduce height often stems from social pressures or personal discomfort, but it is essential to focus on self-acceptance and body positivity instead of seeking drastic measures that could lead to health complications.

Regarding your concerns about back pain and bone issues, particularly with your hip bones and perceived leg length discrepancy, it is crucial to approach these problems with a comprehensive understanding of musculoskeletal health. The feeling of having one leg longer than the other can be attributed to several factors, including structural differences, muscle imbalances, or postural issues. This discrepancy can lead to compensatory movements that may cause discomfort or pain in the lower back and hips.

To address your back pain and hip issues, consider the following recommendations:
1. Consult a Specialist: It is vital to see an orthopedic specialist or a physical therapist who can assess your condition thoroughly. They can perform physical examinations and imaging studies, such as X-rays or MRIs, to determine if there are any underlying structural issues contributing to your pain.

2. Physical Therapy: Engaging in physical therapy can be beneficial. A physical therapist can design a personalized exercise program that focuses on strengthening the muscles around your hips and lower back, improving flexibility, and correcting any postural imbalances. This can help alleviate pain and improve your overall function.

3. Posture Awareness: Being mindful of your posture during daily activities can significantly impact your back health. Ensure that you maintain a neutral spine position when sitting, standing, or walking. Ergonomic adjustments to your workspace can also help reduce strain on your back.

4. Stretching and Strengthening Exercises: Incorporate stretching and strengthening exercises into your routine. Focus on exercises that target the hip flexors, hamstrings, quadriceps, and core muscles. Strengthening these areas can help stabilize your pelvis and spine, reducing discomfort.

5. Footwear Considerations: Pay attention to your footwear. Wearing supportive shoes can help with alignment and reduce strain on your hips and back. If you have a significant leg length discrepancy, custom orthotics may be recommended to help balance your gait.

6. Weight Management: Maintaining a healthy weight can reduce the strain on your joints and spine. If you are overweight, consider a balanced diet and regular exercise to help manage your weight.

7. Pain Management: For immediate relief from pain, over-the-counter pain medications, such as NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen), may be helpful. However, consult with a healthcare provider before starting any medication regimen.

8. Mind-Body Techniques: Practices such as yoga, Pilates, or tai chi can improve flexibility, strength, and body awareness, which may help alleviate pain and improve your overall well-being.

In conclusion, while it is not possible to reduce height through medical means, addressing your back pain and hip issues through proper assessment, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications can significantly improve your quality of life. Focus on building a strong, healthy body that you can feel confident in, regardless of your height.
