Prostate Issues: Excessive Masturbation and Symptoms Explained - Urology

Prostate issues

I have noticed that the frequency of my masturbation seems to be quite high, around 4 to 6 times a day for about six years.
I'm not sure if this is the cause, but last week after masturbating, I started feeling very uncomfortable.
I thought a night's sleep would help, but I felt worse instead.
I have a feeling of swelling and pain in my anus and perineum, occasional sharp pain in my testicles, and sometimes I also experience sharp pain in my lower back.
Urination is also uncomfortable.
I'm wondering if there might be an issue with my prostate.
I went to a clinic for a urine test, but nothing was found.
They prescribed me medication for a week and advised me to rest, but I still feel strange.
Should I consider getting further tests? A few years ago, I had similar symptoms, but I didn't take any medication and it resolved itself after a few months.
Should I just wait and see if it gets better on its own? Could this be caused by excessive masturbation? Thank you for your response.

Hello: The symptoms you mentioned could indeed be attributed to excessive masturbation.
You might want to take a break for a few days and see if the symptoms improve, which would suggest that excessive masturbation is the cause.
The testicular pain and lower back discomfort you described can be evaluated with an ultrasound or other diagnostic tests.
If the symptoms persist, please visit a urology clinic at a teaching hospital or higher for further evaluation and treatment.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding prostate issues, particularly in relation to excessive masturbation, can be complex and multifaceted. Your symptoms, including discomfort in the anal and perineal regions, testicular pain, and urinary discomfort, may indeed suggest a prostate-related issue, such as prostatitis or pelvic floor dysfunction.
Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland that can be caused by various factors, including bacterial infections, but it can also occur without any identifiable infection (non-bacterial prostatitis). Symptoms often include pelvic pain, discomfort during urination, and sexual dysfunction. In your case, the discomfort following frequent masturbation might be linked to pelvic floor muscle tension or irritation of the prostate due to overactivity.

Excessive masturbation, while generally not harmful in moderation, can lead to physical discomfort if done excessively. The prostate and surrounding tissues can become irritated from frequent stimulation, leading to symptoms like pain and discomfort. Additionally, the pelvic floor muscles may become tense or fatigued, contributing to the sensations you are experiencing.

You mentioned that you have experienced similar symptoms in the past that resolved on their own. This could indicate that your body is capable of self-regulating in some instances, but it is essential to recognize that persistent or severe symptoms warrant medical attention. If your symptoms have not improved with rest and medication, further evaluation may be necessary.
Here are some steps you can take to address your situation:
1. Consult a Urologist: If you haven't already, consider seeing a urologist who specializes in male reproductive health. They can perform a thorough examination, including a digital rectal exam (DRE) to assess the prostate and possibly recommend further tests, such as a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test or imaging studies.

2. Pelvic Floor Therapy: If pelvic floor dysfunction is suspected, pelvic floor physical therapy can be beneficial. A trained therapist can help you learn relaxation techniques and exercises to alleviate tension in the pelvic region.

3. Lifestyle Modifications: Reducing the frequency of masturbation may help alleviate your symptoms. Additionally, incorporating relaxation techniques, such as yoga or meditation, can help reduce overall tension and stress, which may contribute to pelvic discomfort.

4. Hydration and Diet: Ensure you are well-hydrated and maintain a balanced diet. Some individuals find that certain foods or beverages (like caffeine or alcohol) can exacerbate urinary symptoms, so it may be worth monitoring your intake.

5. Follow-Up Care: If your symptoms persist despite initial treatment, follow up with your healthcare provider. They may consider additional diagnostic tests or referrals to specialists, such as a pain management expert or a psychologist, if psychological factors are contributing to your symptoms.

6. Education and Awareness: Understanding your body and its responses is crucial. Educate yourself about normal sexual function and the potential effects of excessive sexual activity on your health.

In conclusion, while excessive masturbation may contribute to your symptoms, it is essential to approach this issue holistically. Persistent symptoms should not be ignored, and seeking professional medical advice is crucial for proper diagnosis and treatment. Your health and well-being are paramount, and addressing these concerns with a qualified healthcare provider will help you find relief and regain your quality of life.
