Early symptoms of infection?
I had unprotected sexual intercourse with a man on the evening of the 20th, and about seven days later, I developed small red spots on my calf that resemble insect bites.
There are not many, but they are itchy.
Aside from that, I have no other symptoms.
I would like to know if this could be a symptom of HIV or syphilis.
Can a blood test detect it now?

Hello: You may need to get checked, please go to the hospital for an examination (it might not be detectable on the 20th), but there has been no sexual activity prior? It's more reassuring to get checked, thank you for your inquiry.

After engaging in unprotected sexual activity, it is understandable to be concerned about the potential for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The symptoms you describe, such as small red itchy spots on your lower leg, can be alarming, but they are not specific indicators of HIV or syphilis.
Firstly, it is important to note that the incubation period for many STIs varies significantly. For instance, HIV may not show detectable antibodies for 2 to 8 weeks after exposure, while syphilis can take anywhere from 10 to 90 days to present symptoms. The small red itchy spots you are experiencing could be related to a variety of conditions, including allergic reactions, insect bites, or other dermatological issues, rather than being a direct symptom of an STI.
Regarding testing, if you are concerned about HIV or other STIs, it is advisable to get tested. For HIV, testing is most reliable when done at least 2 to 4 weeks after potential exposure, but for the most accurate results, waiting 3 months is recommended. This is because some individuals may take longer to develop detectable antibodies. For syphilis, testing can typically be done within a few weeks after exposure, but again, waiting a bit longer can provide more reliable results.
If you are experiencing any symptoms that are concerning or if the red spots persist or worsen, it is crucial to consult a healthcare provider. They can perform a thorough examination, provide appropriate testing, and offer guidance based on your specific situation.
In summary, while your symptoms may cause concern, they are not definitive indicators of HIV or syphilis. Testing is the best way to determine your STI status, and it is recommended to do so at the appropriate time following potential exposure. Always practice safe sex to reduce the risk of STIs in the future, and consider discussing any concerns with a healthcare professional who can provide personalized advice and support.
