Menstruation has not arrived yet?
Since October, my period has come twice in one month, and it hasn't arrived yet this month; it is already two days late.
I had intercourse the night before my expected period without protection at first, but then I used condoms afterward.
This month, I've been under a lot of stress due to work, and I have previously experienced palpitations, which I know are influenced by my environment.
Could this be a sign of pregnancy, or is it just due to stress that my period hasn't come? My first period in October was from the 2nd to the 8th, the second was from the 28th to November 3rd, and the second period in November was from the 24th to the 30th.
Thank you, doctor, for your guidance.

Hello Ms.
En: A woman's menstrual cycle can be easily affected by factors such as emotions, stress, changes in daily routine, or illness, which can sometimes cause the onset to be delayed or occur earlier than expected.
If you are concerned about pregnancy, you might want to take a urine test.

When it comes to missed periods, both stress and pregnancy can be potential causes. Given your situation, it's important to consider several factors that could be influencing your menstrual cycle.
Firstly, stress is a well-documented factor that can disrupt the menstrual cycle. The body responds to stress by releasing hormones such as cortisol, which can interfere with the normal hormonal balance required for ovulation and menstruation. If you've been experiencing significant stress, as you mentioned, it could very well be the reason for your missed period. Stress can lead to a condition known as hypothalamic amenorrhea, where the hypothalamus (the part of the brain that regulates hormones) stops signaling the ovaries to produce hormones necessary for menstruation.
On the other hand, pregnancy is another possible explanation for a missed period. Since you mentioned having unprotected intercourse, albeit briefly, and then using protection afterward, it’s essential to consider the timing of ovulation and the effectiveness of the contraceptive methods used. Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for several days, so if ovulation occurred shortly after the unprotected intercourse, there is a possibility of conception.
To determine whether you are pregnant, the most reliable method is to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced shortly after a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. For the most accurate results, it's best to wait until at least the first day of your missed period to take the test.
If your period continues to be delayed, or if you experience other symptoms such as nausea, breast tenderness, or fatigue, these could also indicate pregnancy. However, if the test is negative and your period does not return, it may be worth consulting a healthcare provider to explore other potential causes, including hormonal imbalances or other underlying health issues.
In summary, both stress and pregnancy can lead to missed periods. Given your recent experiences with stress and the timing of your sexual activity, it’s advisable to take a pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy as a cause. If the test is negative and your period does not resume, or if you have concerns about your health, seeking medical advice would be a prudent next step. Remember, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, managing stress, and regular check-ups with your healthcare provider can help in managing your menstrual health effectively.
