Symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) but no menstruation has occurred?
Hello: I had my period on December 5th, and I was supposed to get it on January 7th this month.
I have experienced mild abdominal pain typical before my period, but it still hasn't arrived.
I have had sexual intercourse a few times during this period and would like to know if there is a chance of pregnancy or if it could just be due to stress and late nights.

What you need is not medical consultation but rather a remedial course in sexual education.
For such inquiries, it is recommended to refer to the National Health Administration's "Sexual Well-being e-Learning" or the Obstetrics and Gynecology Society's "Consultation Guide for Adolescent Contraception" at http://goo.gl/dc6PfW.
Hello, the factors affecting the menstrual cycle or intermenstrual bleeding are numerous, including age, environment, lifestyle, stress, emotional instability, weight changes, medications, emergency contraceptive pills, diet, uterine or cervical lesions, infections, pregnancy, and breastfeeding, among others.
Additionally, early pregnancy may not necessarily present specific symptoms, and subjective symptoms cannot be used for diagnosis.
It is advisable to check for pregnancy if your period is more than a week late.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health, Dr.
Zhang.

When it comes to missed periods and the accompanying symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), it can be quite perplexing, especially when considering the possibility of pregnancy or the effects of stress. Based on your description, you experienced your last menstrual period on December 5th, and you were expecting your next one on January 7th. The absence of your period, coupled with PMS-like symptoms such as abdominal discomfort, raises legitimate questions about your reproductive health.
Firstly, it is important to understand that a missed period can be attributed to several factors, including pregnancy, hormonal imbalances, stress, changes in weight, and lifestyle factors. Given that you have engaged in sexual activity during your cycle, there is a possibility of pregnancy. The best way to confirm this is through a home pregnancy test, which is most accurate when taken after a missed period. If the test is positive, it is advisable to schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider for further evaluation and prenatal care.
On the other hand, stress can significantly impact your menstrual cycle. High levels of stress can lead to hormonal fluctuations that may delay ovulation or even prevent menstruation altogether. Stress-related factors such as changes in sleep patterns, increased workload, or emotional distress can all contribute to this phenomenon. If you suspect that stress might be the culprit, it may be helpful to engage in stress-reduction techniques such as mindfulness, yoga, or other relaxation methods.
If your pregnancy test is negative and you continue to experience missed periods or PMS symptoms, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare professional. They can help determine if there are underlying issues, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, or other hormonal imbalances that may require treatment.
In summary, while there is a possibility of pregnancy given your sexual activity, stress is also a significant factor that could explain your missed period and PMS symptoms. Taking a home pregnancy test is a crucial first step. Regardless of the outcome, if your symptoms persist or worsen, seeking medical advice is essential for your overall health and well-being. Remember, your mental and emotional health is just as important as your physical health, especially during times of uncertainty.
