Glans issues
Hello doctor, I had a circumcision eleven days ago.
In the past two days, I have been waking up around three in the morning due to physiological responses of my penis.
However, unlike before when erections caused pain, these past two days, the erections have brought a very strong itching sensation, which is quite uncomfortable and makes it difficult for me to sleep.
Is this situation normal?
Additionally, the reason for my circumcision was to treat inflammation at the glans corona.
Recently, as the swelling has gradually subsided, I can see the inflamed area on my glans after an erection.
I have noticed that there are no signs of inflammation subsiding after the circumcision.
Does it take some time for the inflammation to resolve? I have been following the hospital physician's instructions to soak the area to loosen the stitches and have been showering as well.
Could these actions be related to my itching sensation and inflammation?

Hello: If the wound is not red or secreting any fluid, mild itching is a common description for some wounds.
After a circumcision, it is important to keep the inflamed skin dry; if it becomes moist, gently pat it dry to help improve the inflammation.
If there is no improvement after two weeks, you should see a doctor to explore other treatment options.
Additionally, spicy foods and alcohol should be avoided as they can negatively affect the wound.
Thank you for your inquiry.

Post-circumcision symptoms can vary significantly among individuals, and it is not uncommon to experience discomfort, itching, or inflammation during the healing process. Given your situation, it’s important to understand the typical recovery timeline and the potential causes of your symptoms.
Firstly, it’s important to note that after circumcision, the area around the glans (the head of the penis) can be sensitive as it adjusts to being exposed. The sensation of itching you are experiencing, especially during erections, can be attributed to several factors:
1. Healing Process: After circumcision, the skin and tissues undergo a healing process. This can involve inflammation, which may lead to itching. The presence of stitches can also contribute to discomfort as they dissolve and the skin heals.
2. Sensitivity: The glans is usually covered by the foreskin, and after circumcision, it becomes exposed. This exposure can lead to increased sensitivity, which may manifest as itching or discomfort, especially during erections.
3. Moisture and Hygiene: It’s crucial to maintain proper hygiene during the healing process. If moisture accumulates around the surgical site, it can lead to irritation and itching. Ensure that the area is kept clean and dry, and follow your doctor’s instructions regarding bathing and cleaning.
4. Inflammation: Since you mentioned that the circumcision was performed to address inflammation at the glans, it’s possible that the inflammation has not fully resolved. It can take time for inflammation to subside, and the healing process can vary from person to person. If you still see signs of inflammation, such as redness or swelling, it may indicate that the area is still healing.
5. Allergic Reactions or Irritants: Sometimes, products used for cleaning or bathing can cause irritation. If you are using any soaps, lotions, or other products, consider whether they might be contributing to your symptoms.
Regarding your question about the duration of inflammation, it can take several weeks for the area to heal completely. If you are following your doctor's advice on care and hygiene, you should see gradual improvement. However, if the inflammation persists or worsens, or if you develop additional symptoms such as discharge, increased redness, or severe pain, it is essential to consult your healthcare provider. They may need to assess the area for any signs of infection or other complications.
In terms of your bathing practices, soaking the area can be beneficial for healing, but be cautious not to irritate the site further. Gentle cleaning with mild soap and water is usually recommended, but avoid scrubbing the area.
In summary, while some discomfort, itching, and inflammation can be normal after circumcision, it is crucial to monitor your symptoms. If you have concerns about the severity of your symptoms or if they do not improve, please reach out to your healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance. They can provide personalized advice and ensure that your recovery is on track.
