Glans issues

Hello doctor, a few days ago I noticed a small bump on the upper edge of my glans (surrounded by 3-5 tiny yellow spots, very small, about 0.5mm).
It is approximately 2mm, red, and oval-shaped.
After showering, it turns white.
I am unsure why this is happening as I have not engaged in any sexual activity, nor have I visited a sauna or hot spring.
No one in my household has a sexually transmitted infection.
The only thing is that I am not very diligent with cleaning.
Could you please tell me what the issue might be? (I had urethritis in elementary school) Thank you for your response, doctor.

Hello: If there is no sexual activity, it is recommended to maintain local cleanliness and dryness.
If there is an increase in size, please seek medical attention.

Understanding bumps on the glans can be concerning, and it's important to approach this issue with a clear understanding of potential causes and implications. The symptoms you describe—a small red bump on the glans with surrounding tiny yellow spots—could be attributed to several benign conditions, but it is essential to consider the context and any accompanying symptoms.

One common cause of bumps on the glans is Pearly Penile Papules. These are small, dome-shaped, white or yellowish bumps that typically appear around the corona of the glans. They are completely normal anatomical variations and are not associated with any disease or infection. They are harmless and do not require treatment unless they cause discomfort or psychological distress.

Another possibility is Fordyce Spots, which are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the shaft of the penis or the glans. These are sebaceous glands that are not associated with hair follicles and are also considered a normal variant. Like pearly penile papules, they are not a cause for concern.

However, given your description of a red bump and the presence of yellow spots, it is also important to consider other conditions. Balanitis, an inflammation of the glans, can cause redness and swelling, sometimes accompanied by bumps or lesions. This condition can result from poor hygiene, irritants, or infections, including yeast infections or sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Even if you have not engaged in sexual activity recently, it is still possible to develop infections due to other factors, such as irritants or skin conditions.

Another potential concern could be Folliculitis, which is the inflammation of hair follicles that can occur anywhere on the body, including the genital area. This condition can present as small red bumps and may be associated with itching or discomfort.

Given your medical history of urethritis, it is also prudent to consider that any changes in the genital area should be evaluated by a healthcare professional. While many conditions are benign, some may require treatment or further investigation to rule out infections or other underlying issues.

In your case, since you mentioned that you do not practice good hygiene, it may be beneficial to improve your cleaning routine. Regular washing with mild soap and water can help prevent irritations and infections. However, if the bump persists, changes in appearance, or if you experience any pain, itching, or discharge, it is crucial to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider can perform a physical examination, possibly conduct tests, and provide a definitive diagnosis and appropriate treatment if necessary.

In summary, while many bumps on the glans are benign and not a cause for concern, it is essential to monitor any changes and consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation. Maintaining good hygiene and being aware of any accompanying symptoms will help ensure your genital health.
