Glans issues
Hello doctor, a few days ago I noticed a rash on my glans (near the urethral opening, small, about 1-2mm).
Today I discovered that the glans has a foul odor, there are cracks, some transparent sticky substance in the area, and it feels a bit warm.
The foreskin and glans suddenly itch, and the rash seems to be increasing in number.
However, I have never engaged in sexual activity and have not been to any unclean places, so it shouldn't be a sexually transmitted infection, right? What could be the problem?

Hello: If there has been no sexual activity, it may be due to inadequate hygiene practices.
In such cases, it is still important to seek medical attention, as some individuals may experience worsening symptoms.
Therefore, it is advisable to schedule an appointment with a urologist for evaluation and treatment.

More Info
Understanding glans issues, particularly when it comes to symptoms like rashes, odor, and discomfort, is crucial for maintaining genital health. Based on the symptoms you've described—small rashes near the urethral opening, an unpleasant odor, cracks, a sticky discharge, warmth, and itching—there are several potential causes to consider.
Symptoms and Possible Causes
1. Balanitis: This is an inflammation of the glans (the head of the penis) and can be caused by various factors, including poor hygiene, irritants (like soaps or lotions), or infections (bacterial or fungal). The symptoms typically include redness, swelling, itching, and sometimes a discharge.
2. Yeast Infection: A common cause of glans irritation, particularly if there is a thick, white discharge. This can occur even in males who are not sexually active, especially if there are risk factors like diabetes or antibiotic use.
3. Contact Dermatitis: This can occur due to an allergic reaction to products that come into contact with the genital area, such as soaps, detergents, or latex from condoms.
4. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): While you mentioned not being sexually active, it's still important to consider that some infections can be asymptomatic or contracted through non-sexual means. Conditions like herpes or HPV can cause similar symptoms.
5. Psoriasis or Other Skin Conditions: Conditions like psoriasis can also affect the genital area, leading to red patches, itching, and discomfort.
Treatment Options
1. Maintain Hygiene: Keeping the area clean and dry is essential. Use mild soap and water, and avoid harsh chemicals or fragrances.
2. Topical Treatments: Depending on the diagnosis, antifungal creams (for yeast infections), hydrocortisone creams (for inflammation), or antibiotic ointments (for bacterial infections) may be recommended.
3. Avoid Irritants: If contact dermatitis is suspected, identify and avoid any potential irritants. This includes switching to hypoallergenic soaps and avoiding scented products.
4. Consult a Healthcare Provider: Since your symptoms include a discharge and odor, it's crucial to see a healthcare provider for an accurate diagnosis. They may perform a physical examination and possibly take a culture of the discharge to identify any infections.
5. Follow-Up Care: If a specific condition is diagnosed, follow the treatment plan provided by your healthcare provider. This may include medications, lifestyle changes, or further testing if necessary.
When to Seek Immediate Care
If you experience severe pain, fever, or if the symptoms worsen despite home care, seek medical attention promptly. These could be signs of a more serious infection or condition that requires immediate treatment.
Conclusion
While your symptoms may not necessarily indicate a sexually transmitted infection, they do warrant a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent complications and promote healing. Remember, maintaining good genital hygiene and being aware of any changes in your body are key to preventing and addressing health issues effectively.
