Red glans?

Hello doctor, the surface of my glans is red, and it feels flat without any bumps as shown in the image.
Yesterday, I stepped on an unknown object at the MRT station and confirmed it with my hand without washing my hands afterward.
Then I went to the restroom and touched my glans.
The next day, I woke up to find my glans red.
Could this be HIV? I'm very anxious because I had a sexual encounter last August and had a blood test in November, which came back negative.
Can I feel reassured now? I'm sorry, doctor, I previously posted about this issue, but the image was unclear, so I'm sending this one.

Hello: I cannot see the image, but based on your description, if there is redness, you should seek medical attention.
As for the previous sexual encounter, I recommend getting tested again this time.
The chance of contracting a sexually transmitted infection (STI) from touching the glans after not washing your hands is very low.
Thank you for your inquiry.

When it comes to understanding redness on the glans (the head of the penis), there are several potential causes and concerns that one should consider. Based on your description, it seems that the redness appeared after you touched the area with unwashed hands, which could indicate a few possibilities.

Firstly, the redness could be a result of irritation or inflammation. This can occur due to friction, contact with irritants, or even an allergic reaction to substances that may have been on your hands. In this case, the redness is likely not a serious concern and may resolve on its own with proper hygiene and care. It is important to wash your hands thoroughly before touching sensitive areas to prevent irritation or infection.

Another possibility is a mild infection, such as a yeast infection or bacterial infection. These infections can cause redness, swelling, and discomfort. If the redness persists, or if you notice additional symptoms such as itching, discharge, or pain, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Regarding your concern about HIV, it is understandable to feel anxious, especially given your history of sexual activity. However, since you mentioned that you had an HIV test in November that came back negative, it is highly unlikely that the redness is related to HIV, especially if you have not engaged in any high-risk behaviors since then. HIV is not transmitted through casual contact or touching; it requires specific conditions for transmission, such as unprotected sexual intercourse or sharing needles.

If you are still feeling anxious about your health, it may be beneficial to speak with a healthcare provider who can offer reassurance and possibly recommend further testing if necessary. It's also important to remember that anxiety can sometimes exacerbate physical symptoms, so managing stress and anxiety levels can be beneficial for your overall well-being.

In summary, the redness on the glans could be due to irritation or a mild infection, especially considering the circumstances of how it occurred. If the symptoms do not improve or worsen, seeking medical advice is the best course of action. As for your concerns about HIV, your negative test result from November should provide some reassurance, but if you have any lingering doubts or new symptoms, consulting a healthcare professional is always a good idea.
