Penile shrinkage
For the past month and a half, I have noticed that my penis and scrotum seem to have shrunk, feeling about 1.5 cm shorter (when not erect).
Could this be related to the colder weather or sitting for too long? However, I usually exercise about twice a week for 30 minutes each time.
When I visited the hospital, the doctors mentioned it could be psychological, but I haven't been under much stress lately.

Hello: Cold weather or an increase in surrounding fat can create this visual sensation.
Physiologically, it is not possible for the body to shrink.
Please check again when the weather warms up.
Additionally, there is no need to be overly concerned about this.
Thank you for your inquiry, and please refrain from taking health supplements or over-the-counter medications indiscriminately.

Penis shrinkage, or perceived changes in size, can be a concerning issue for many men. It's important to understand that several factors can contribute to this phenomenon, and it's not uncommon for men to experience fluctuations in size due to various reasons.
Firstly, temperature can indeed play a role in the appearance of penis size. When exposed to cold temperatures, the body naturally responds by constricting blood vessels to conserve heat. This can lead to a temporary reduction in size, both in the penis and the scrotum. The body prioritizes core temperature regulation, which can cause the penis to retract closer to the body. If you've noticed this change during colder weather, it could be a simple physiological response.
Sitting for prolonged periods can also contribute to a temporary decrease in size. When sitting, especially in a position that compresses the groin area, blood flow may be restricted, leading to a feeling of shrinkage. This is often temporary and should resolve once you change positions or stand up.
Another factor to consider is weight gain or changes in body composition. If you've gained weight, particularly around the abdominal area, it can create the appearance of a smaller penis due to the fat pad that develops at the base of the penis. This can make the penis appear shorter than it actually is.
Psychological factors can also play a significant role in how we perceive our bodies. Even if you feel that you are under less stress, anxiety about sexual performance or body image can lead to heightened awareness of size and function. This can create a feedback loop where the more you think about it, the more you may perceive changes that may not be as significant as they seem.
If you are experiencing a noticeable change in size that is persistent and concerning, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional. They can perform a thorough evaluation to rule out any underlying medical conditions that could be contributing to this change. Conditions such as Peyronie's disease, hormonal imbalances, or vascular issues can lead to changes in size and function.
In conclusion, while temporary changes in penis size can be influenced by environmental factors, body position, and psychological aspects, persistent changes should be evaluated by a healthcare provider. It's essential to approach this topic openly with a medical professional who can provide reassurance and guidance based on your specific situation. Remember, communication with your doctor is key to addressing any concerns you may have about your sexual health and well-being.
