After hemorrhoid surgery, there may be pain and fever?
After my hemorrhoid surgery, I had a fever of about 37.5-38 degrees Celsius on the day of hospitalization.
The next day when I returned home, I still had a fever in the same range.
Is this normal? Will continuous fever cause any issues? The wound is also very painful.

Generally, after hemorrhoid surgery, there should not be any fever.
If there is a fever accompanied by swelling and pain at the wound site, it is advisable to return to the clinic promptly for the physician to examine whether there is a wound infection.

After hemorrhoid surgery, experiencing a mild fever in the range of 37.5 to 38 degrees Celsius (99.5 to 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit) can be relatively common and may not necessarily indicate a serious problem. Postoperative fever can occur due to several reasons, including the body's natural response to surgery, inflammation, or even the stress of the procedure itself.
When the body undergoes surgery, it triggers a healing response that can lead to an increase in metabolic activity, which may manifest as a mild fever. This is particularly true for surgeries involving the abdominal area, such as hemorrhoid surgery, where manipulation of tissues can lead to localized inflammation.
However, it is essential to monitor the fever and other symptoms closely. If the fever persists beyond a couple of days, or if it rises above 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit), it may warrant further investigation. Persistent fever could indicate complications such as infection, which is a risk following any surgical procedure. Signs of infection may include increased redness, swelling, or discharge from the surgical site, as well as worsening pain or systemic symptoms like chills or malaise.
Regarding pain, it is also common to experience discomfort after hemorrhoid surgery. The level of pain can vary significantly from person to person, depending on the extent of the surgery and individual pain tolerance. Pain management is crucial in the recovery process, and medications such as acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are often recommended to help alleviate discomfort. If the pain is severe or worsening, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider, as this could indicate complications such as excessive bleeding or infection.
In summary, while a mild fever after hemorrhoid surgery can be normal, it is essential to keep an eye on the situation. If the fever persists, increases, or is accompanied by other concerning symptoms, it is advisable to contact your healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may perform a physical examination and possibly order blood tests or imaging studies to rule out any complications.
In addition to monitoring fever and pain, it is important to follow postoperative care instructions provided by your surgeon. This may include recommendations for wound care, dietary modifications, and activity restrictions to promote healing and minimize discomfort. Staying hydrated, maintaining a balanced diet, and gradually increasing activity levels as tolerated can also support recovery.
Overall, while some discomfort and mild fever can be expected after hemorrhoid surgery, being vigilant about your symptoms and communicating with your healthcare provider will help ensure a smooth recovery process.
