Sensitivity of the glans penis?

Hello, Doctor! I would like to ask you about my previous experience with genital warts.
After undergoing cauterization treatment, I have not had any recurrences.
I would like to know if the glans may become more sensitive after the cauterization.
I have noticed that during my bathing routine, when I clean the glans, I often feel minor tearing sensations, which can be itchy and painful.
Additionally, I have observed a white film on the glans during cleaning, which I suspect might be a fungal infection.
I purchased a topical treatment for skin conditions, but I feel that the glans seems even more sensitive now.
Whenever I have an erection and exert pressure, there is a subtle discomfort that feels like tearing on the surface of the glans.
I would appreciate your insights on this matter.
Thank you.

Hello: It is not recommended for you to use ointments on your skin, as they will not be helpful.
You should just keep the area clean and dry, and use condoms during sexual intercourse.
You will recover soon.
If you experience redness, rashes, broken skin, discharge, or lesions, please seek medical attention.

After undergoing treatment for genital warts (condyloma acuminatum) through cauterization, it is common to have concerns about the sensitivity and condition of the glans (the head of the penis). Cauterization can indeed lead to changes in the skin, including increased sensitivity or a feeling of fragility in the treated area. This is primarily due to the healing process, which may involve the formation of new tissue that can be more sensitive than the original skin.

Understanding Sensitivity and Care for the Glans
1. Healing Process: After cauterization, the skin on the glans may be more sensitive as it heals. This sensitivity can manifest as discomfort during cleaning or sexual activity. It is essential to allow adequate time for healing and to avoid any irritants that could exacerbate the sensitivity.

2. Tearing and Discomfort: The sensation of small tears or discomfort during cleaning could be attributed to the fragility of the newly healed skin. It is crucial to be gentle when cleaning the area. Using mild, unscented soap and warm water can help minimize irritation. Avoiding vigorous scrubbing and opting for a soft cloth can also be beneficial.

3. White Membrane: The presence of a white membrane on the glans could be due to several factors, including the natural healing process, the presence of smegma (a combination of dead skin cells and oils), or a potential fungal infection. If you suspect a fungal infection, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

4. Use of Topical Treatments: While over-the-counter treatments like the one you mentioned (杏輝的美康綜合性皮膚疾患治療劑) may provide some relief, they can also cause irritation if the skin is already sensitive. It is essential to monitor how your skin reacts to any topical treatments and to discontinue use if you notice increased irritation or discomfort.

5. Consultation with a Healthcare Provider: Given your symptoms of itching, pain, and the sensation of tearing, it would be prudent to consult a healthcare provider or a dermatologist. They can assess your condition, rule out any infections (such as candidiasis), and provide tailored advice on managing sensitivity and discomfort.

6. Preventive Measures: To prevent further irritation, consider the following:
- Avoid tight-fitting underwear that could cause friction.

- Maintain good hygiene without over-cleaning, which can strip natural oils and lead to dryness.

- Use a gentle moisturizer if the skin feels dry or irritated, but ensure it is suitable for sensitive areas.

7. Long-term Care: After treatment for genital warts, it is essential to monitor the area for any signs of recurrence or new symptoms. Regular check-ups with your healthcare provider can help ensure that any issues are addressed promptly.

In summary, while sensitivity and discomfort after cauterization are common, it is crucial to approach the situation with care. Gentle cleaning, monitoring for signs of infection, and consulting with a healthcare provider will help ensure proper healing and management of any symptoms you may experience.
