Laser circumcision for phimosis involves the use of skin adhesive?

Hello doctor, I underwent laser surgery on May 10th, and postoperatively, skin glue was used to aid in wound healing, so there is no need for ointments or dressing changes.

1.
However, my main concern right now is that the glans is very sensitive; it retracts with any touch.
I am currently using a desensitizing spray, which helps significantly after application.
I would like to know how long it typically takes to adapt, and whether the desensitizing spray can assist in helping the glans adjust to sensitivity over time?
2.
I have read many articles mentioning the possibility of swelling, but I have not experienced any so far.
Is it possible that swelling may occur later on?

Hello: 1.
Currently, the most troubling issue is that the glans is very sensitive; it retracts slightly with any touch.
I have been using a desensitizing spray, and it helps significantly after application.
I would like to know how long it typically takes to adapt, and whether the desensitizing spray can assist in helping the glans become less sensitive over time? --> The effect is minimal.
2.
I have read many articles mentioning the possibility of edema, but I am not experiencing any at the moment.
Is it likely to occur later? --> It should not happen.
Wishing you good health.

After undergoing laser circumcision, it is common to experience heightened sensitivity in the glans (the head of the penis). This sensitivity can be quite uncomfortable and may lead to involuntary retraction of the glans upon contact. Here are some insights and tips for managing this sensitivity and ensuring a smooth recovery.

Understanding Sensitivity Post-Surgery
1. Normal Sensitivity: Following laser circumcision, it is typical for the glans to be more sensitive than usual. This is due to the exposure of nerve endings that were previously covered by the foreskin. The sensitivity may gradually decrease as the area heals and the skin becomes accustomed to its new state.

2. Adaptation Period: The adaptation period can vary from person to person. Generally, it may take several weeks to a few months for the sensitivity to normalize. During this time, it is important to be gentle with the area and avoid any activities that may cause discomfort.

Managing Sensitivity
1. Desensitizing Sprays: Using desensitizing sprays can be an effective way to manage sensitivity. These sprays typically contain local anesthetics that temporarily numb the area, providing relief from discomfort. While these sprays can help, they are not a permanent solution. It is advisable to use them as needed, particularly before activities that may cause discomfort.

2. Gradual Exposure: Gradually exposing the glans to different stimuli can help in the adaptation process. Start with gentle contact and slowly increase exposure as comfort allows. This can help the nerve endings adjust to normal sensations over time.

3. Hygiene and Care: Maintaining proper hygiene is crucial during the healing process. Clean the area gently with mild soap and water, and avoid any harsh chemicals or irritants. If you experience any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, or discharge, consult your healthcare provider immediately.

4. Avoiding Irritants: Be cautious with products that may irritate the sensitive skin, such as scented soaps or lotions. Opt for hypoallergenic products to minimize the risk of irritation.

Concerns About Swelling
1. Swelling Post-Surgery: While some individuals may experience swelling after circumcision, it is not universal. If you have not noticed any swelling so far, it is possible that you may not experience significant swelling later on. However, if swelling does occur, it is usually temporary and should subside as healing progresses.

2. Monitoring for Changes: Keep an eye on the surgical site for any changes. If you notice sudden swelling, increased pain, or any unusual symptoms, it is essential to reach out to your healthcare provider for evaluation.

When to Seek Medical Advice
If the sensitivity persists beyond a few months or if you experience any concerning symptoms such as severe pain, persistent swelling, or signs of infection, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider. They can assess your situation and provide additional recommendations or treatments if necessary.

Conclusion
In summary, heightened sensitivity after laser circumcision is a common experience that typically improves over time. Utilizing desensitizing sprays, practicing gradual exposure, and maintaining proper hygiene can aid in managing this sensitivity. While swelling is not guaranteed, monitoring for any changes is crucial. Always consult your healthcare provider if you have concerns or if symptoms persist. Your comfort and health are paramount during this recovery phase.
