Common mental health issues

Current Situation:
1.
Decreased independence: For tasks like brushing my teeth, taking a shower, urinating, turning on the computer, or shutting down my phone, I have to ask for confirmation before I feel safe to proceed.
Otherwise, I just stand there waiting for a response.

2.
When eating, I ask what dish this is and what soup that is; only after receiving a response do I feel comfortable eating.

3.
I feel unwell every day: my vision is blurry, urination is uncomfortable, and my ears feel strange.

4.
I really want to go outside, but there are so many cars, and I'm afraid of getting hit, so I always ask my dad to take me out for a walk; otherwise, it gets very boring.

5.
I believe my current condition is my dad's fault because ever since he returned from military service, he has been helping me with work, but he always gets kicked out after a short time.
This has accumulated endless resentment and frustration, and I blame all my dissatisfaction on him.
Whenever I feel unhappy, I end up hitting him.

6.
Although I feel very tired at night, I don't want to go to bed too early because it's boring during the day when everyone is at work.
So I usually go to sleep around 2 to 3 AM after taking my medication, which makes my dad angry because I stay up so late.

7.
Even though I take a long shower every day (about 90 minutes), I think this is the time when I feel most relaxed.
If someone disturbs me during this time, I get very angry and start throwing things.

8.
I wonder if my dad is crazy; he keeps trying to find me a job, knowing that my health is poor, and insists that I work.
Each time I face setbacks, my condition worsens, which explains why I feel unwell and irritable, leading me to want to hit someone.

Hello Mr.
Chen: Based on your inquiry, it seems that you are experiencing some anxiety and unease.
May I ask what medication you are currently taking? If it is a psychiatric medication, I recommend discussing your situation with your psychiatrist, as they will be able to provide you with a more detailed response.
If it is not, I also suggest seeking evaluation from a psychiatrist for a more in-depth assessment.
Thank you for your question!

Your situation reflects a complex interplay of anxiety, dependency, and possibly unresolved emotional conflicts, particularly with your father. It’s important to recognize that what you’re experiencing is not uncommon, especially in individuals facing mental health challenges. Let’s break down your concerns and explore them further.

1. Decreased Autonomy: Your reliance on others for confirmation before performing daily tasks, such as brushing your teeth or using the computer, indicates a significant level of anxiety. This behavior is often seen in individuals with anxiety disorders, where the fear of making mistakes or facing negative consequences leads to excessive reassurance-seeking. This can create a cycle where the more you seek reassurance, the more you feel unable to act independently.

2. Physical Discomfort: The constant feeling of physical discomfort—like blurry vision or urinary issues—can be manifestations of anxiety. Anxiety often presents with somatic symptoms, where psychological distress translates into physical sensations. It’s crucial to consult a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying medical conditions, but also to address the psychological aspects contributing to these feelings.

3. Fear of the Outside World: Your fear of going outside due to traffic and potential accidents is another common anxiety symptom. This can lead to avoidance behaviors, where you prefer to stay indoors, which can further exacerbate feelings of isolation and boredom. Gradually exposing yourself to the outside world, perhaps starting with short walks in safe environments, may help alleviate this fear over time.

4. Conflict with Your Father: The resentment you feel towards your father for your current situation is understandable, especially if you perceive that his actions have contributed to your struggles. It’s important to communicate these feelings in a constructive manner rather than resorting to physical expressions of anger. Family therapy could be beneficial in addressing these dynamics and improving communication between you and your father.

5. Sleep Patterns: Staying up late and feeling restless can be a sign of anxiety or depression. The quiet hours of the night may feel like the only time you have for yourself, but this can disrupt your sleep cycle and overall health. Establishing a calming bedtime routine and limiting screen time before bed can help improve your sleep quality.

6. Self-Care Rituals: While spending a long time in the shower may provide you with a sense of relaxation, it’s essential to ensure that this behavior doesn’t become a compulsive ritual. Finding other ways to relax, such as mindfulness practices or engaging in hobbies, can provide balance.

7. Work Pressure: Your father’s insistence on finding you a job, despite your current state, can feel overwhelming. It’s crucial to have an open dialogue about your capabilities and mental health. Setting realistic goals and discussing your feelings with him can help ease the pressure.

In summary, it’s vital to seek professional help to address these issues comprehensively. A mental health professional can provide a safe space to explore your feelings, develop coping strategies, and work towards greater autonomy and emotional well-being. Therapy can also help you process your feelings towards your father and improve your communication with him. Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, and taking the first step towards understanding and managing your mental health is crucial for your overall well-being.
