The body has been experiencing ongoing issues?
Hello Doctor: Recently, I have been experiencing ongoing health issues, and I would appreciate your advice regarding my situation.
Around early May, I suddenly started having headaches.
At first, I thought it was due to work fatigue and expected it to resolve in a day or two, as it had in the past.
However, the pain worsened, and I even developed a fever.
Since I usually feel healthy, I didn't see a doctor right away, hoping it would improve on its own.
After a week of persistent pain, although the fever subsided, the headache did not improve, so I consulted a doctor and took medication, which resolved the issue after a week.
Shortly after recovering, I developed a large sore in the soft palate near the uvula, which was very painful.
I applied an oral ointment, but it didn't help much, and it took over a week to heal.
Just when I thought I was better, I started experiencing a scratchy throat and the urge to cough, although it wasn't frequent.
On the seventh day, I went to a temple, and perhaps due to the smoke, I began to cough more violently that night.
I then saw a doctor who diagnosed me with allergies, possibly due to seasonal changes or poor air quality.
However, the medication I took did not seem to help.
I am concerned that frequent coughing might injure my throat, so I sometimes try to suppress the cough, but at times I end up coughing uncontrollably, and there were two instances where I coughed so hard that I vomited.
I would like to ask which specialist I should see.
I am worried that there might be an underlying health issue, or it could simply be that my immune system is currently weak.
I would appreciate any advice you could provide!

● Headaches have improved, so there is usually no need for concern.
● Oral ulcers are also quite common and are typically caused by stress, fatigue leading to decreased immunity, or viral infections; if they improve within two weeks, there is no need for worry.
● Coughing may also be due to an infection or exposure to pollutants or allergens; further evaluation can be done at a family medicine or pulmonology clinic.

More Info
It sounds like you’ve been experiencing a series of health issues that have caused you significant concern and discomfort. Your symptoms, including persistent headaches, throat pain, and coughing, can be quite distressing, especially when they seem to follow one another in quick succession. Let’s break down your situation and discuss when it’s appropriate to seek medical advice, as well as what steps you can take to address your health concerns.
Firstly, it’s important to recognize that while some health issues can resolve on their own, others may require medical intervention, especially if they persist or worsen. In your case, the progression from headaches to throat issues and persistent coughing suggests that your body may be responding to an underlying condition, possibly related to allergies, infections, or even stress.
When to Seek Medical Advice
1. Persistent Symptoms: If symptoms last longer than a week without improvement, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare professional. In your case, the headache that lasted a week and the throat pain that followed indicate that something may need further evaluation.
2. Severity of Symptoms: If you experience severe pain, high fever, or any new symptoms that are alarming (such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, or significant swelling), you should seek immediate medical attention.
3. Impact on Daily Life: If your symptoms are affecting your ability to perform daily activities, such as work or social interactions, it’s a sign that you should see a doctor.
4. Recurrent Issues: If you find that you are frequently experiencing similar symptoms, it may be time to investigate potential underlying causes, such as allergies, chronic sinusitis, or other respiratory issues.
Recommended Steps
Given your symptoms, here are some recommendations for the types of specialists you might consider seeing:
- Primary Care Physician (PCP): Start with your PCP, who can perform a thorough evaluation, including a physical examination and possibly some lab tests. They can help rule out infections or other systemic issues.
- Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Specialist: If your throat pain and cough persist, an ENT specialist can evaluate for conditions such as allergies, sinus infections, or other throat-related issues.
- Allergist: If your doctor suspects allergies as a contributing factor, they may refer you to an allergist for testing and management.
- Neurologist: If your headaches continue or worsen, a neurologist can help determine if there are any underlying neurological issues.
Self-Care and Management
In addition to seeking medical advice, there are some self-care strategies you can implement:
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids to keep your throat moist and help alleviate coughing.
- Rest: Ensure you are getting adequate rest to support your immune system.
- Avoid Irritants: Stay away from smoke, strong odors, and allergens that may exacerbate your symptoms.
- Over-the-Counter Medications: Consider using over-the-counter pain relievers for headaches and throat lozenges for throat discomfort, but consult your doctor before starting any new medication.
- Monitor Symptoms: Keep a diary of your symptoms, noting when they occur and any potential triggers. This information can be helpful for your healthcare provider.
Conclusion
Your health is important, and it’s understandable to feel anxious when experiencing multiple symptoms. By seeking medical advice and being proactive about your health, you can work towards identifying the underlying causes of your symptoms and finding effective treatment. Remember, it’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health. Don’t hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional to discuss your concerns further.
