Can this behavior lead to pregnancy?

Hello Doctor: My period ended on June 18.
On June 24, my boyfriend and I engaged in mutual touching, where our genitals made contact, but there was no penetration or rubbing at the vaginal opening.
Later, he ejaculated through masturbation.
Afterward, he wiped his hands with tissue and took a shower.
After some time, he inserted his penis into my vagina.
Is there a chance of pregnancy from this? I would like to know if there is a possibility of pregnancy from just the contact.
I read online that pre-ejaculate fluid from males can lead to pregnancy.
Is the risk significant? My next period is due on July 8, but it is currently one day late.
Due to work, I often wake up at 2 or 3 AM instead of the usual 6 AM.
Could this cause irregularities in my menstrual cycle? Thank you, Doctor.

When it comes to the question of whether you can get pregnant from intimate touching, it's important to understand the mechanics of conception and the potential risks involved. Pregnancy typically occurs when sperm fertilizes an egg, which usually happens through vaginal intercourse. However, there are scenarios where pregnancy can occur even without direct penetration.

In your situation, you mentioned engaging in intimate touching where the genital areas were in contact, and there was no penetration. While the likelihood of pregnancy from such activities is relatively low, it is not impossible. The reason for this is that pre-ejaculate fluid (also known as pre-cum), which can be released from the penis before ejaculation, may contain sperm. If this fluid comes into contact with the vaginal area, there is a potential, albeit small, risk of sperm entering the vagina and leading to pregnancy.

To address your specific concerns:
1. Pre-ejaculate Fluid: This fluid can contain sperm, and while the concentration is generally lower than in ejaculate, it is still a risk factor for pregnancy. If any of this fluid were to come into contact with the vaginal opening, there is a possibility of sperm traveling into the reproductive tract.

2. Timing of Ovulation: The timing of your menstrual cycle plays a crucial role in determining the likelihood of pregnancy. If you were close to your ovulation period (which typically occurs about 14 days before your next expected period), the chances of conception increase. However, if you were not near ovulation, the risk is significantly lower.

3. Menstrual Irregularities: You mentioned that your period is late by a day. Stress, changes in routine (like waking up at different times), and other lifestyle factors can indeed affect your menstrual cycle. It’s not uncommon for women to experience irregularities in their cycle due to various factors, including stress or changes in sleep patterns.

4. Pregnancy Testing: If you are concerned about the possibility of being pregnant, the best course of action is to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are most accurate when taken after a missed period. If the test is positive, or if you continue to have concerns, it would be advisable to consult with a healthcare professional for further evaluation.

5. Consulting a Doctor: If you have any doubts or experience unusual symptoms, such as significant changes in your menstrual cycle, abdominal pain, or other concerning signs, it’s important to seek medical advice. A healthcare provider can offer personalized guidance based on your specific situation.

In summary, while the risk of pregnancy from intimate touching without penetration is low, it is not zero, especially if pre-ejaculate fluid is involved. Monitoring your menstrual cycle and considering a pregnancy test if your period is significantly late can help clarify your situation. Always feel free to reach out to a healthcare provider for personalized advice and support regarding sexual health and pregnancy concerns.
