There is a lump near the anus?
Doctor, I have a lump near my anus that sometimes I can squeeze and it breaks, releasing what seems to be pus, and afterwards there is sometimes blood.
At times, I only get blood when I squeeze.
I remember when I was younger, after using the toilet, I would clean my anus with toilet water or with a part of toilet paper that others hadn't used yet.
I would like to ask if this is hemorrhoids or another condition? I go to the bathroom every day, and my stools are soft and not formed into a log shape.
There are no blood streaks, but the color varies between green and brown.

Dr. Hong Yuanbin reply Internal Medicine
Hello, based on your symptom description, it seems to be a benign cyst rather than a hemorrhoid.
This type of cyst typically ruptures and heals on its own.
It's important to keep the wound dry and clean it with warm water after each bowel movement.
However, it can easily recur.
If it recurs multiple times and causes you distress, you may consider consulting a colorectal surgeon for surgical removal.
Thank you for your inquiry.

More Info
Understanding anal lumps can be quite concerning, especially when accompanied by symptoms such as pus, blood, or discomfort. Based on your description, it sounds like you may be experiencing a condition related to the anal area, which could potentially include hemorrhoids, anal abscesses, or other issues.
Symptoms and Causes
1. Hemorrhoids: These are swollen veins in the lower rectum or anus. They can be internal or external. Symptoms may include pain, itching, and bleeding during bowel movements. If you are experiencing a lump that can be squeezed and sometimes produces pus or blood, it could be an external hemorrhoid that has become thrombosed or inflamed.
2. Anal Abscess: This is a collection of pus that can form near the anus due to infection. Symptoms include pain, swelling, and sometimes fever. If you are squeezing the lump and it releases pus, this could indicate an abscess. The presence of blood after squeezing could also suggest that the abscess is affecting surrounding tissues.
3. Fistula: If an abscess does not heal properly, it can lead to a fistula, which is an abnormal connection between the anal canal and the skin. This can cause persistent drainage and discomfort.
4. Skin Tags: These are benign growths that can occur around the anus. They are usually painless but can become irritated.
5. Other Conditions: There are other less common conditions that could cause anal lumps, such as warts, cysts, or even more serious conditions like anal cancer. However, these are less likely given your symptoms.
Treatment Options
1. Self-Care: For hemorrhoids, increasing fiber intake, staying hydrated, and using over-the-counter topical treatments can help alleviate symptoms. Warm sitz baths may also provide relief.
2. Medical Treatment: If you suspect an abscess, it is important to see a healthcare provider. They may need to drain the abscess and prescribe antibiotics to treat any infection.
3. Surgical Options: In cases of persistent hemorrhoids or fistulas, surgical intervention may be necessary. This could involve procedures to remove hemorrhoids or repair fistulas.
4. Dietary Changes: Since you mentioned that your stools are soft and sometimes vary in color, it may be beneficial to evaluate your diet. A diet high in fiber can help regulate bowel movements and prevent straining, which can exacerbate hemorrhoids.
When to Seek Medical Attention
Given your symptoms, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough examination. They can provide a proper diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment. If you experience severe pain, fever, or significant bleeding, seek medical attention promptly.
Conclusion
While your symptoms may suggest hemorrhoids or an anal abscess, only a healthcare provider can give you a definitive diagnosis. It is crucial to avoid self-diagnosing and to seek professional help, especially since you have experienced pus and blood. Early intervention can prevent complications and lead to better outcomes. Remember, maintaining good hygiene and a healthy diet can significantly impact your anal health.
