Is the foreskin cut too short?
Hello Doctor, I had a circumcision a week ago, and today marks exactly 7 days.
The healing seems to be going well, but this morning, when I experienced physiological arousal, I felt a bit of tightness.
It's not very painful, just a pulling sensation (not quite like being tugged by the stitches).
Could this situation indicate that the circumcision was too short? Or should I wait until the stitches are completely dissolved before drawing any conclusions? Before the physiological response, the length was about 0.5 to 1 cm in front of the coronal sulcus.
I'm quite anxious about this, so I couldn't help but ask for your advice.
Thank you!

Hello: The skin of the foreskin is quite elastic and shouldn't be too short.
After some time, it should feel more comfortable.
Let's check again during the follow-up visit.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
After undergoing a circumcision procedure, it's common to experience a range of sensations as the body heals. Your description of feeling a tightness or pulling sensation, particularly during physiological responses, is not unusual. Here’s a breakdown of what you might be experiencing and some insights into the healing process.
Understanding Post-Circumcision Sensations
1. Healing Process: After circumcision, the area around the glans (the head of the penis) and the remaining shaft skin can feel tight as the tissues heal. This tightness is often due to swelling and the natural healing process, which can take several weeks. The stitches or sutures used during the procedure will also contribute to this sensation until they dissolve or are removed.
2. Tightness and Sensation: The feeling of tightness you describe, especially during an erection, can be attributed to the skin that remains after the circumcision. If the circumcision was performed conservatively, there may still be some skin left, which can stretch during an erection. However, if you feel that the tightness is excessive or painful, it may warrant further evaluation.
3. Length Considerations: You mentioned that the length of the remaining skin is about 0.5 to 1 cm from the corona (the ridge of the glans). This is generally considered an adequate amount of skin for normal function. However, if you feel that the skin is too tight or if you experience pain, it might be worth discussing with your healthcare provider. They can assess whether the circumcision was performed appropriately or if there are any complications.
4. Waiting for Complete Healing: It’s essential to give your body time to heal fully before making any definitive conclusions about the outcome of the circumcision. The sensation you are experiencing may change as the swelling goes down and the tissues adjust. Typically, it can take several weeks to a few months for the area to heal completely and for sensations to normalize.
5. When to Seek Help: If the tightness persists beyond the initial healing phase, or if you experience pain, discomfort, or any unusual symptoms (such as redness, swelling, or discharge), it’s crucial to consult your healthcare provider. They can perform a physical examination and determine if any further intervention is necessary.
Conclusion
In summary, the sensations you are experiencing post-circumcision are likely part of the normal healing process. It’s important to monitor your symptoms and allow adequate time for healing. If you have concerns about the tightness or any other sensations, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for reassurance and guidance. They can provide personalized advice based on your specific situation and help ensure that your recovery progresses smoothly. Remember, healing takes time, and it’s essential to be patient with your body as it adjusts after the procedure.
