Right testicular pain?
A few years ago, I had an argument with a girlfriend, and in the heat of the moment, she struck my testicles.
It was very painful at the time, but since there was no lingering pain, I didn't go to the hospital for an examination.
Recently, I've been experiencing unexplained pain in my right testicle.
What could be the cause? Could this affect my fertility?

Hello: Years ago, there was likely no issue with the injury; otherwise, you would have seen a doctor.
Now, due to pain and concerns about fertility, you should consider visiting a healthcare provider to check your semen quality (which is the most accurate).
Wishing you good health.

More Info
Right testicular pain can be concerning, especially when it arises after a traumatic event, such as the incident you described. There are several potential causes for your right testicular pain, and understanding these can help you determine the best course of action.
1. Trauma: The immediate pain you experienced during the altercation could have caused some form of trauma to the testicle or surrounding structures. While you did not feel pain afterward, it is possible that there was some internal injury that has manifested as pain later on. Trauma can lead to conditions such as testicular torsion, hematoma, or even epididymitis, which is inflammation of the epididymis, the tube that stores and carries sperm.
2. Epididymitis: This is an inflammation of the epididymis, often caused by infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Symptoms typically include swelling, redness, and pain in the affected testicle. If the pain is accompanied by fever or discharge, it is essential to seek medical attention.
3. Testicular Torsion: This is a medical emergency where the spermatic cord becomes twisted, cutting off the blood supply to the testicle. Symptoms include sudden, severe pain, swelling, and sometimes nausea. If you experience these symptoms, you should seek immediate medical care, as this condition can lead to loss of the testicle if not treated promptly.
4. Hernia: An inguinal hernia occurs when tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. This can cause discomfort or pain in the groin and may radiate to the testicles.
5. Varicocele: This is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum, which can cause a dull ache or discomfort, particularly after prolonged standing or physical activity.
6. Referred Pain: Sometimes, pain in the testicles can be referred from other areas, such as the lower back or abdomen. Conditions affecting the kidneys or urinary tract can also cause testicular pain.
Regarding your concern about fertility, it is essential to understand that while some conditions can affect fertility, not all causes of testicular pain will have an impact. For instance:
- Epididymitis and infections can potentially affect sperm quality and fertility if left untreated.
- Testicular torsion can lead to loss of the affected testicle, which may impact fertility depending on the overall health of the remaining testicle.
- Varicocele is known to be associated with fertility issues, as it can affect sperm production and quality.
If you are experiencing persistent or severe pain, it is crucial to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation. A physical examination, along with imaging studies such as an ultrasound, may be necessary to determine the underlying cause of your pain. Early diagnosis and treatment are vital to prevent potential complications that could affect your fertility.
In summary, while your right testicular pain could stem from various causes, it is essential to seek medical attention, especially if the pain persists or worsens. Addressing any underlying issues promptly can help ensure your reproductive health remains intact.
