There are many drops of bright red blood before and after bowel movements?
For the past three days, I have been experiencing a significant amount of bright red blood during bowel movements.
Sometimes, blood drips before I even have a bowel movement, and at other times, it sprays out.
When the bleeding is heavy, it continues to drip without stopping.
Interestingly, while there is blood on the toilet paper after wiping, the blood and stool are expelled separately.
My bowel movements are normal, occurring 1-3 times a day, and there is no pain; however, I have been feeling a dull sensation near my anus and around my belly button for several months.
This symptom tends to resolve in about 2-3 days.
I have undergone a stool test, which came back "normal."

More Info
Bright red blood during bowel movements can be alarming and is often a cause for concern. The presence of blood in the stool can indicate various conditions, some of which may require medical attention. Given your description of the symptoms, let's explore the potential causes and what steps you can take.
Potential Causes of Bright Red Blood During Bowel Movements
1. Hemorrhoids: One of the most common causes of bright red blood during bowel movements is hemorrhoids. These are swollen veins in the lower rectum or anus that can bleed during bowel movements, especially if there is straining involved. The blood is typically bright red and may be seen on the toilet paper or in the toilet bowl.
2. Anal Fissures: An anal fissure is a small tear in the lining of the anus, often caused by passing hard stools. This can lead to sharp pain during bowel movements and bright red blood.
3. Diverticular Disease: Diverticulosis, which involves the formation of small pouches in the colon wall, can lead to diverticulitis if these pouches become inflamed. This condition can cause bleeding, although it is often accompanied by other symptoms like abdominal pain.
4. Colorectal Polyps or Cancer: While less common, polyps (growths on the colon lining) or colorectal cancer can also cause bright red blood in the stool. This is particularly concerning if there are changes in bowel habits, unexplained weight loss, or if you have a family history of colorectal cancer.
5. Gastrointestinal Infections: Certain infections can cause inflammation and bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract, leading to blood in the stool.
What to Do Next
Given that you have experienced this symptom for three consecutive days, it is crucial to seek medical attention. Here are some steps you should consider:
1. Consult a Healthcare Provider: Schedule an appointment with a gastroenterologist or your primary care physician. They may recommend a physical examination, a digital rectal exam, or further diagnostic tests such as a colonoscopy to determine the source of the bleeding.
2. Keep a Symptom Diary: Document your bowel habits, the amount of blood, any associated symptoms (like pain or changes in bowel habits), and dietary habits. This information can be helpful for your healthcare provider.
3. Avoid Straining: If hemorrhoids or anal fissures are suspected, try to avoid straining during bowel movements. Ensure you are drinking plenty of water and consuming a high-fiber diet to soften stools.
4. Monitor Symptoms: Pay attention to any changes in your symptoms. If you experience severe pain, significant changes in bowel habits, or if the bleeding worsens, seek immediate medical attention.
5. Follow-Up Testing: If your healthcare provider recommends further testing, such as a colonoscopy, it is essential to follow through. Early detection of any serious conditions can significantly improve outcomes.
Conclusion
While bright red blood during bowel movements can often be attributed to benign conditions like hemorrhoids or anal fissures, it is essential to rule out more serious issues. Given your symptoms have persisted for several days, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional promptly. They can provide a thorough evaluation and appropriate management based on the underlying cause of your symptoms. Remember, your health is paramount, and addressing these symptoms early can lead to better outcomes.
