Penile swelling and tingling?
Hello Doctor: When the penis is not erect, it experiences a sharp pain when it comes into contact with clothing.
The area of pain is marked in red in the attached photos, and I have noticed swelling in that area.
Currently, the penis can achieve normal erection, and as long as there is no tight grip or contact with the red-marked area during erection, there is no pain.
Urination is normal and painless.
This condition has persisted for two days (first noticed on the morning of 09/23).

Hello: Although nothing was observed, if there is sharp pain, it is still abnormal.
It is recommended to see a urologist for an examination.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to understanding pain and swelling in the penis, it is crucial to approach the situation with caution and awareness of the potential underlying causes. Based on your description, you are experiencing sharp pain in a specific area of the penis when it comes into contact with clothing, along with noticeable swelling. Fortunately, you mentioned that the pain does not occur during erection or urination, which can be a positive sign. However, it is essential to consider several factors before deciding whether to seek medical help.
Firstly, the presence of localized pain and swelling could indicate a variety of conditions. Some common causes of such symptoms include:
1. Trauma or Injury: If there has been any recent trauma to the area, even minor, it could lead to localized swelling and pain. This could be due to friction from clothing or an accidental bump.
2. Infection: Conditions such as balanitis (inflammation of the glans) or sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can cause pain and swelling. If there are any accompanying symptoms such as discharge, redness, or fever, it would be prudent to seek medical attention.
3. Allergic Reaction or Irritation: Sometimes, irritation from soaps, detergents, or even certain fabrics can lead to localized swelling and pain. If you have recently changed any products that come into contact with the area, consider this as a potential cause.
4. Peyronie's Disease: This condition involves the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, which can cause pain and curvature. While this typically presents with pain during erections, it is worth considering if the pain persists.
5. Other Urological Conditions: Conditions such as epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis) or other urological issues could also manifest as pain and swelling in the genital area.
Given that your symptoms have persisted for two days, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional, particularly a urologist. While the absence of pain during erection and normal urination is reassuring, the localized pain and swelling warrant further evaluation. A healthcare provider can perform a physical examination, possibly order imaging studies, and conduct laboratory tests to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.
In terms of when to seek immediate medical help, consider the following red flags:
- Severe Pain: If the pain becomes unbearable or significantly worsens.
- Fever: The presence of fever could indicate an infection that requires prompt treatment.
- Discharge: Any unusual discharge from the penis should be evaluated.
- Persistent Symptoms: If the pain and swelling do not improve or worsen over the next few days.
In the meantime, you can take some measures to alleviate discomfort. Wearing loose-fitting clothing can help reduce friction and irritation. Additionally, applying a cold compress to the area may help reduce swelling and provide temporary relief.
In conclusion, while your symptoms may not seem urgent, they do require attention. Consulting a healthcare professional will provide you with the necessary guidance and treatment options to address your concerns effectively. Remember, it is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health.
