Are you pregnant?

Hello.
I had my last sexual intercourse on August 27, and my period started around September 14 and ended around the 19th, which was normal with a heavier flow.
I usually have my period about every twenty-something days after the last one, and it hasn't changed.
However, as of today, my period for October has not arrived.
I took home pregnancy tests on Friday afternoon and again this morning, both showing negative results.
For the past two weeks, I have been experiencing mild abdominal bloating, heaviness, and cramping, along with lower back pain.
Aside from feeling irritable, I have not experienced any other discomfort.
Could this indicate a possible pregnancy? I recently changed jobs and moved, and I have been under a lot of stress.
I considered whether this could be the cause, but I have experienced significant stress in the past without any irregularities in my menstrual cycle...

Hello, the chances of pregnancy are low, but it is always best to take preventive measures beforehand.
Do not rely on the safe period.
If your period is more than a week late, it is advisable to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

Stress can indeed affect your menstrual cycle, potentially causing delays or irregularities. When you experience significant stress, your body releases hormones such as cortisol, which can interfere with the normal functioning of the hypothalamus, the part of the brain that regulates the menstrual cycle. This disruption can lead to changes in the timing of ovulation and, consequently, your period.

In your case, you mentioned that your last menstrual period started around September 14 and ended on the 19th, with a regular cycle of about 20 days. Given that it is now October and you have not yet had your period, it is understandable to be concerned. The symptoms you describe, such as abdominal discomfort, lower back pain, and mood swings, can be associated with both stress and early pregnancy. However, since you have taken home pregnancy tests that have returned negative results, it is less likely that you are pregnant.

It is important to note that while home pregnancy tests are generally reliable, they can sometimes yield false negatives, especially if taken too early. If you suspect you might be pregnant, it may be worth waiting a few days and testing again, or consulting with a healthcare provider for a blood test, which can detect pregnancy earlier than a urine test.

Your recent life changes, including a job transition and moving, can contribute to heightened stress levels. Stress can manifest in various ways, including physical symptoms like abdominal discomfort and changes in your menstrual cycle. While you mentioned that you have experienced stress in the past without affecting your cycle, it is possible that the cumulative effect of recent changes has had an impact this time.

If your period does not arrive soon, or if your symptoms worsen, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional. They can provide a thorough evaluation, including a physical examination and possibly further testing to rule out any underlying conditions that might be contributing to your symptoms and menstrual irregularity.

In summary, while stress can delay your period, it is essential to consider other factors as well. Keep track of your symptoms, and if you continue to have concerns about your menstrual cycle or potential pregnancy, seeking medical advice is the best course of action. Remember, your health and well-being are paramount, and healthcare professionals are there to help you navigate these concerns.
