Is there a possibility of pregnancy?
Hello, doctor.
I would like to ask a question.
I went to see a doctor on December 30 because my period was delayed.
The pregnancy test result was negative, so the doctor prescribed me medication to induce my period for 3 days, but my period still hasn't come.
Should I go back to see the doctor? Is there still a possibility of being pregnant? Note: My last period was on November 26, and my menstrual cycle has generally been regular.
Recently, I have been under a lot of stress.
Thank you for your help, doctor.

Dear Mommy of a little one,
Emotions and stress can affect ovulation and menstruation.
If your menstrual cycle is usually regular (once a month) but has now exceeded the expected date, and a urine test does not indicate pregnancy while menstruation has not resumed, please visit the obstetrics and gynecology department for an ultrasound and blood tests to check hormone levels (ovarian function, prolactin, and human chorionic gonadotropin).
This will help determine the cause.
Wishing you good health and all the best!
Sincerely,
Director Tsai Yong-Lung,

It sounds like you're experiencing a lot of anxiety and uncertainty regarding your menstrual cycle and the possibility of pregnancy. Let's break down your situation and address your concerns.
Firstly, it's important to note that a delayed period can be caused by various factors, and stress is one of the most common culprits. Stress can significantly impact your hormonal balance, leading to irregularities in your menstrual cycle. In your case, since you mentioned that your last period was on November 26 and you have been under increased stress, it is possible that this stress is contributing to your delayed period.
You mentioned that you took a pregnancy test on December 30, which came back negative. If you followed the instructions correctly and the test was taken after a missed period, this result is generally reliable. However, if you are still concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, it might be worth repeating the test a few days later or consulting with your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
Regarding the medication your doctor prescribed to induce your period, it's not uncommon for doctors to recommend such treatments when a patient experiences a delayed period without pregnancy. If you have taken the medication as directed and your period still hasn't arrived, it would be advisable to follow up with your doctor. They can assess your situation more thoroughly, possibly perform additional tests, and help determine if there are any underlying issues that need to be addressed.
It's also essential to consider your mental health during this time. The anxiety surrounding your menstrual cycle and potential pregnancy can create a cycle of stress that exacerbates the situation. Practicing stress-reduction techniques such as mindfulness, yoga, or even simple breathing exercises can help alleviate some of the pressure you may be feeling. Additionally, talking to a mental health professional can provide support and coping strategies to manage your anxiety.
In summary, while the negative pregnancy test is a good indicator that you are not pregnant, the stress you are experiencing could be affecting your menstrual cycle. It is essential to communicate with your healthcare provider about your ongoing concerns, especially since your period has not returned after taking the prescribed medication. They can provide the best guidance tailored to your specific situation. Remember, taking care of your mental health is just as important as addressing any physical health concerns.
