Anal growths?
Hello Doctor, the day before yesterday while I was showering, I noticed a small lump near my anus while washing.
At first, I suspected it might be hemorrhoids, but there is no pain or itching, and I haven't experienced any bleeding or difficulty during bowel movements.
However, I have been having daily bowel movements recently.
I immediately bought hemorrhoid cream to apply.
Today, while showering, I noticed that the lump has grown a bit larger.
I'm concerned that the cream may not be effective, and I would like to ask the doctor if this is hemorrhoids.
I have read many opinions stating that hemorrhoids typically cause pain, itching, and bleeding during bowel movements, but I do not have any of these symptoms.
I'm worried it might be something else and would like to know if I need to visit a hospital for a consultation.
I'm afraid it will continue to grow larger.

When it comes to the discovery of a small lump near the anus, it’s understandable to be concerned about what it could be. Based on your description, it seems that you initially suspected hemorrhoids, but you are not experiencing any pain, itching, or bleeding during bowel movements, which are common symptoms associated with hemorrhoids. The fact that you have started using hemorrhoid cream without any noticeable improvement could indicate that the lump may not be hemorrhoidal in nature.
There are several possibilities for what this lump could be. While hemorrhoids are indeed a common cause of anal lumps, they typically present with discomfort, itching, or bleeding. Given your lack of these symptoms, it might be worth considering other conditions. Some potential alternatives include:
1. Skin Tags: These are benign growths that can occur around the anal area. They are usually painless and can vary in size. Skin tags often develop as a result of friction or irritation.
2. Anal Warts: Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), anal warts can appear as small lumps. They may not cause pain but can be bothersome.
3. Abscess: An anal abscess is a collection of pus that can occur due to infection. While these can be painful, some may not present with significant discomfort initially.
4. Fistula: An anal fistula is an abnormal connection between the anal canal and the skin. This condition can develop after an abscess and may not always be painful.
5. Other Growths: There are other benign or malignant growths that can occur in the anal region, and while they are less common, they should not be ruled out.
Given that the lump has increased in size, it is advisable to seek medical attention. While it may not be an emergency, a visit to a healthcare provider, preferably a gastroenterologist or a colorectal surgeon, would be prudent. They can perform a thorough examination, possibly including a digital rectal exam or an anoscopy, to better understand the nature of the lump.
In terms of treatment, it is essential to have a proper diagnosis before starting any treatment. Over-the-counter creams may not be effective if the lump is not hemorrhoidal. A healthcare professional can provide guidance on the best course of action based on the diagnosis.
In summary, while your symptoms do not strongly indicate hemorrhoids, it is important to have the lump evaluated by a medical professional. Early assessment can help alleviate your concerns and ensure that any necessary treatment is initiated promptly. Remember, it’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to changes in your body.
