There are particles in the urethra?

Hello doctor, I have a small rash inside my urethra that is the same color as the glans.
Sometimes it is more noticeable, and other times it is less so.
The area around the rash is slightly red, and it sometimes itches but does not hurt.
I have noticed it for almost a year, and its size has not changed.
What could be the issue? P.S.
I have no sexual experience and have not been to unclean places.

Niming, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2018/01/08

Dr. Du Shixi reply Urology

Hello: It could be normal skin (since it hasn't grown), and if there has been no sexual activity, there is no need to worry about sexually transmitted infections.
If you are really concerned, you should consult a urologist at a hospital.

When it comes to urethral bumps, it's important to understand that there are various potential causes, and not all of them are serious. Based on your description of a small bump in the urethra that has been present for almost a year, is the same color as the glans (the head of the penis), and occasionally appears red and itchy, there are several possibilities to consider.

1. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, harmless bumps that can appear around the glans of the penis. They are usually skin-colored or slightly white and are often mistaken for warts. They are completely benign and do not require treatment.

2. Fordyce Spots: These are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the shaft of the penis or the scrotum. They are sebaceous glands that are visible through the skin and are also harmless.

3. Folliculitis: This condition occurs when hair follicles become inflamed, often due to infection or irritation. It can cause small red bumps that may itch or be tender. If the bump is near the urethra, it could be related to hair follicles in that area.

4. Genital Warts: Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), these can appear as small, flesh-colored or gray bumps. However, since you mentioned that you have no sexual experience and have not been to unclean places, the likelihood of this being the cause is lower.

5. Candidiasis (Yeast Infection): This can cause itching and redness, and sometimes small bumps can form. It is more common in individuals with certain risk factors, but it can occur in anyone.

6. Urethral Stricture or Lesion: If the bump is within the urethra itself, it could be a sign of a stricture or other lesion. This would typically be accompanied by other symptoms such as difficulty urinating or pain.

Given that the bump has been stable in size and does not cause pain, it is less likely to be a serious condition. However, the fact that it occasionally itches and is red could indicate some form of irritation or infection.

Recommendations:
1. Consult a Urologist: It is crucial to have a healthcare professional examine the bump. A urologist can perform a physical examination and may recommend tests such as a urine analysis or a swab to rule out infections.

2. Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in the bump, such as changes in size, color, or if it becomes painful. Also, note any other symptoms like changes in urination, discharge, or persistent itching.

3. Avoid Irritants: In the meantime, avoid using harsh soaps or lotions in the genital area, as these can cause irritation.

4. Practice Good Hygiene: Maintain good genital hygiene to prevent infections, and wear breathable underwear to reduce moisture buildup.

5. Sexual Health Education: Since you mentioned you have no sexual experience, it might be beneficial to educate yourself about sexual health and hygiene, as this knowledge can help you make informed decisions in the future.

In conclusion, while the bump you describe is likely benign, it is essential to seek medical advice for a definitive diagnosis and peace of mind. Early evaluation can help address any potential concerns and ensure your overall urogenital health.
