Blisters under the tongue?

About a month or two ago, I developed a white, semi-transparent bump under my tongue near the tip.
It has a bit of hardness to it; it’s not soft enough to flatten when pressed, and it doesn’t hurt even when I touch it with my teeth.
It doesn’t interfere with eating or speaking, but I can feel a hard lump under my tongue, which has been concerning.
That bump went away after a day or two, but today it has reappeared in the same location.
I would like to ask the doctor what this issue might be and if it can be treated through dietary changes.
Thank you.

Understanding white bumps under the tongue can be a source of concern for many individuals. Based on your description, it sounds like you are experiencing a recurring issue with a white, semi-translucent bump that appears under your tongue. While it is reassuring that the bump does not cause pain or interfere with eating or speaking, it is still important to understand the potential causes and remedies for such a condition.

The white bumps you are describing could be several things, including mucoceles, fibromas, or even minor infections. Mucoceles are fluid-filled cysts that can occur when a salivary gland duct is blocked or damaged. They are typically painless and can appear as soft, translucent bumps. Fibromas, on the other hand, are benign tumors that can develop in response to irritation or trauma. They are usually firm and may not cause any discomfort.

Another possibility is that the bumps are related to oral thrush, a fungal infection caused by an overgrowth of Candida yeast. This condition often presents as white patches or bumps in the mouth, including under the tongue. However, oral thrush typically comes with additional symptoms such as soreness or difficulty swallowing.

Given that you mentioned the bump has appeared and disappeared over a couple of months, it may suggest a benign condition, particularly if it is not causing any significant discomfort. However, it is essential to monitor the bump for any changes in size, color, or associated symptoms such as pain, swelling, or difficulty eating.

In terms of dietary remedies, maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial. This includes brushing your teeth and tongue regularly and using an antibacterial mouthwash to help reduce the risk of infections. Staying hydrated can also help keep your mouth moist and may prevent the formation of mucoceles. If you suspect that certain foods might be irritating your mouth, consider keeping a food diary to identify any potential triggers.

If the bump persists or worsens, it is advisable to seek a consultation with a healthcare professional, such as an oral surgeon or an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist. They can perform a thorough examination and may recommend further diagnostic tests, such as a biopsy, if necessary, to rule out any serious conditions.

In summary, while the white bump under your tongue may not be a cause for immediate concern, it is essential to keep an eye on it and maintain good oral hygiene. If you notice any changes or if the bump continues to recur, do not hesitate to seek medical advice for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
