Bleeding a few days after the end of menstruation?
I have not engaged in sexual intercourse.
Initially, I had a lot of discharge, sometimes yellow, sometimes white or clear, and at times it was long and viscous like mucus.
Later, the discharge had streaks of blood, so I went to see a gynecologist.
I was too afraid to undergo a pelvic exam, so I didn't have one.
The doctor prescribed medication and advised me to soak in a basin with iodine.
After that, my discharge decreased, but I still experience bleeding about three to four days after my menstrual period ends.
The blood is bright red and only a small amount, lasting for two to three days.
I had an ultrasound, and the doctor said my uterus is fine, but the bleeding continues.
It has been occurring every time three to four days after my period for almost six months now.
During the bleeding, I feel discomfort in my intimate area, which is somewhat painful but not extremely so.
There are still a few days when the discharge is slightly more.
What could be the cause of the ongoing bleeding? Is it possible that I have vaginitis? Is a pelvic exam necessary?

There are still a few days when the discharge is slightly more abundant.
What could be the cause of the persistent bleeding? Could it be vaginitis? Is a pelvic exam necessary?
Answer: The bleeding that starts three to four days after your menstrual period and is bright red and minimal is likely related to ovulation.
A pelvic exam is not necessary at this time.

Post-menstrual bleeding, or bleeding that occurs after the menstrual period has ended, can be concerning and may have various underlying causes. In your case, it seems that you have been experiencing this issue for about six months, with the bleeding starting three to four days after your period ends, accompanied by some discomfort and changes in discharge.
First, let's discuss some potential causes of post-menstrual bleeding:
1. Hormonal Imbalances: Fluctuations in hormone levels, particularly estrogen and progesterone, can lead to irregular bleeding. This is common in adolescents and women approaching menopause, but it can occur at any age.
2. Ovulation: Some women experience ovulatory bleeding, which can occur around the time of ovulation. This bleeding is typically light and may be accompanied by other symptoms, such as mild cramping.
3. Infections: Conditions such as vaginitis or cervicitis can cause abnormal discharge and bleeding. If you have had changes in your discharge (such as increased amounts, color changes, or the presence of blood), it could indicate an infection that may require treatment.
4. Polyps or Fibroids: Uterine polyps or fibroids can lead to irregular bleeding. These are benign growths in the uterus that can cause discomfort and abnormal bleeding patterns.
5. Endometrial Issues: Conditions affecting the endometrium (the lining of the uterus), such as endometrial hyperplasia or even early signs of endometrial cancer, can cause irregular bleeding. This is less common in younger women but is still a consideration.
6. Other Medical Conditions: Conditions like thyroid disorders or clotting disorders can also lead to abnormal bleeding.
Given that you have been experiencing this for six months, it is advisable to consider further evaluation. While your doctor performed an ultrasound and indicated that your uterus appears normal, the persistence of bleeding suggests that further investigation may be warranted. Here are some recommendations:
- Internal Examination: While you mentioned discomfort with internal exams, they can provide valuable information. A pelvic exam can help identify any abnormalities in the vagina or cervix that may not be visible externally.
- Further Testing: Depending on your symptoms and the findings from the pelvic exam, your doctor may recommend additional tests, such as blood tests to check hormone levels or a biopsy of the endometrial lining if there are concerns about abnormal growths.
- Infection Testing: If there is a suspicion of an infection, tests for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or other vaginal infections may be necessary.
- Monitoring Symptoms: Keep track of your symptoms, including the timing, duration, and characteristics of the bleeding and any associated pain. This information can be helpful for your healthcare provider.
In summary, while there are several potential causes for your post-menstrual bleeding, it is essential to follow up with your healthcare provider for a comprehensive evaluation. If you are uncomfortable with certain examinations, communicate this with your doctor, as they can often find alternative ways to assess your condition. Addressing this issue sooner rather than later can help ensure that any underlying problems are identified and treated appropriately.
