Foreskin issues
Doctor, I had a circumcision surgery last August.
After recovery, I was able to clean the glans, but I noticed that the area around the surgery seems to have shrunk, making it difficult for me to clean the glans (previously, I could retract the foreskin, but now it gets stuck at the glans when I try to pull it back).
Is it normal for the sutured area to gradually shrink after surgery? It looks like the skin around the surgical site is bunched up and feels hard to the touch.
Is this normal? Please help me with these concerns.

Hello: Some individuals have a constitution that makes them prone to scar formation from wounds.
In such cases, medical treatment may be necessary, and certain ointments can help improve the condition.
Wishing you good health.

After undergoing circumcision, it is common for patients to have questions about the healing process and what to expect in terms of changes to the anatomy and sensation. It sounds like you are experiencing some concerns regarding the appearance and functionality of your penis post-surgery, particularly with the tightness around the glans (the head of the penis) and the inability to retract the skin as you could before the procedure.
Firstly, it is important to understand that after circumcision, the healing process can lead to changes in the skin and tissue. The area where the circumcision was performed may initially appear swollen or feel tight as it heals. This is a normal part of the recovery process. The sutures used during the procedure will dissolve over time, and the skin will gradually adjust to its new position.
Regarding your specific concerns:
1. Tightness and Inability to Clean the Glans: It is not uncommon for the skin to feel tighter after circumcision, especially if there was a significant amount of skin removed. The sensation of tightness can sometimes make it difficult to retract the skin fully or clean the glans as you did before. This can be exacerbated if there is any scarring or if the skin has not fully healed.
2. Changes in the Appearance of the Surgical Site: The area around the circumcision site may appear different as it heals. It is possible for the skin to feel firmer or harder due to the healing process and the formation of scar tissue. This is generally normal, but if you notice significant changes or if the area feels excessively hard or painful, it would be wise to consult your healthcare provider.
3. Shrinkage of the Circumcision Site: It is typical for the circumcision site to undergo some changes in size and shape as it heals. The skin may appear to shrink or tighten, and this can affect how the skin moves over the glans. If you feel that the skin is excessively tight or if you are experiencing discomfort, it is important to discuss this with your doctor.
4. When to Seek Medical Advice: If you are experiencing persistent pain, significant changes in sensation, or if you are unable to clean the glans effectively, it is advisable to seek medical advice. Your healthcare provider can assess the healing process and determine if there are any underlying issues that need to be addressed, such as scarring or infection.
In summary, while some changes in the appearance and feel of the circumcision site are normal, it is essential to monitor your symptoms. If you have concerns about the tightness or any other issues, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. They can provide guidance on how to manage your symptoms and ensure that your recovery is progressing as expected.
