Post-operative issues related to circumcision?

About 25 days after the circumcision laser surgery, the stitches have all fallen out, but there is a white line as shown in the image.
It doesn't hurt, but will it affect future sexual activity? It seems like the sutures may not have healed properly and might need to be re-stitched.

Biber, 30~39 year old female. Ask Date: 2019/10/25

Dr. Du Shixi reply Urology

Hello: It is suspected that the issue is not related to the suture, but rather to the wound.
It is recommended to return for a follow-up appointment.
After three weeks, it should not open up, but friction may cause some bleeding.
Please return for an evaluation to see if wound care is necessary.
Wishing you good health.

After undergoing circumcision, it is common for patients to have concerns about the healing process and the appearance of the surgical site. In your case, it has been approximately 25 days since the procedure, and you have noticed a white line at the surgical site where the stitches were. While it is reassuring that you are not experiencing pain, it is important to understand the implications of what you are observing and to know what to expect during the healing process.

Firstly, the presence of a white line at the surgical site could be indicative of several things. It may represent a part of the healing process, such as scar tissue formation or remnants of the sutures that have not fully dissolved. In many cases, absorbable sutures are used in circumcision procedures, and they can take several weeks to fully dissolve. If the white line you are seeing is indeed a part of the sutures, it may eventually disappear as your body continues to heal.

Regarding your concern about whether this will affect future sexual activity, it is important to note that the healing process can vary significantly from person to person. Generally, as long as there is no pain, swelling, or signs of infection (such as redness or discharge), the area is likely healing well. Most patients are advised to avoid sexual activity for a period of time post-surgery to allow for proper healing, typically around 4 to 6 weeks, depending on individual circumstances and the surgeon's recommendations.

If you are worried that the white line indicates a problem, such as a potential reopening of the wound or improper healing, it is advisable to consult with your surgeon or a healthcare professional. They can assess the surgical site in person and provide you with a definitive answer regarding whether the area requires further intervention, such as additional suturing.
In terms of aftercare, it is crucial to keep the area clean and dry to prevent infection. Follow any specific instructions provided by your surgeon regarding wound care, including bathing, applying ointments, or using any protective dressings. If you notice any changes in the appearance of the wound, such as increased redness, swelling, or discharge, or if you experience any new pain, you should seek medical attention promptly.

In summary, while the presence of a white line at the surgical site may be concerning, it is not uncommon during the healing process. As long as you are not experiencing pain and there are no signs of infection, it is likely that your body is healing appropriately. However, for peace of mind and to ensure proper healing, it is always best to consult with your healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation and personalized advice.
