Post-circumcision issues 3
I apologize for bothering you again, Doctor.
I am the patient who underwent a circumcision procedure and it has now been seven days since the surgery.
My follow-up appointment is not yet due, but I have a few questions I would like to ask:
1.
I still notice slight bleeding from the area beneath the glans after urination, and it seems to have a thick consistency.
However, there is no bleeding at other times.
Is this a normal occurrence?
2.
I have been curious about something regarding the surgery.
Why does the circumcision procedure sometimes result in wounds near the urethral opening? Isn’t the incision usually made only on the foreskin?
3.
I feel much better now.
Am I allowed to start light exercise? Are there any safety precautions I should take before exercising to ensure it is safe?
Thank you for clarifying these concerns, and I apologize for repeatedly reaching out during these days.
I greatly appreciate your help.

Hello: 1.
Bleeding should indicate the presence of a wound; it is not normal, but it can sometimes be observed.
2.
In theory, a circumcision involves a complete ring; some patients may have adhesions prior to the surgery, which can result in some wounds during the procedure.
3.
It is advisable to monitor whether the bleeding becomes more pronounced after physical activity.
Wishing you good health.

Post-circumcision recovery can be a source of concern for many patients, especially in the first week following the procedure. It's great to hear that you are already noticing a reduction in swelling of the glans and the remaining concerns you have are quite common. Let’s address your questions one by one.
1. Post-urination bleeding and discharge: It is not uncommon to experience slight bleeding after urination in the first week following circumcision. This can be due to the healing process of the surgical site. The presence of a thick discharge could indicate some degree of inflammation or irritation, which can also be normal as the area heals. However, if the bleeding persists, increases in volume, or if you notice any foul-smelling discharge, it’s essential to consult your doctor. They may want to check for any signs of infection or other complications.
2. Wound near the meatus: During a circumcision, the surgeon not only removes the foreskin but may also need to make incisions around the glans (the head of the penis) to ensure proper healing and to prevent complications. This is particularly true if there is any excess foreskin or if the frenulum (the band of tissue on the underside of the penis) is involved. The surgical technique can vary based on the individual anatomy and the specific method used by the surgeon. It’s important to remember that any surgical procedure can lead to some degree of trauma to surrounding tissues, which is why you may see some healing in areas near the meatus.
3. Resuming physical activity: It’s generally advisable to avoid strenuous activities for at least two weeks post-surgery to allow for proper healing. Light activities may be acceptable, but you should listen to your body. If you feel any discomfort or pain while moving, it’s best to stop and rest. Before engaging in any physical exercise, ensure that you are not experiencing any unusual symptoms such as increased swelling, pain, or discharge. If you do decide to exercise, consider wearing supportive underwear to minimize movement and protect the area.
In summary, while some bleeding and discharge can be normal during the recovery phase, it’s crucial to monitor your symptoms closely. If you have any concerns about your healing process or if symptoms worsen, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for further evaluation. They can provide personalized advice based on your specific situation and ensure that your recovery is on track.
Remember, every individual heals at their own pace, and it’s essential to give your body the time it needs to recover fully. Thank you for your questions, and I wish you a smooth and speedy recovery!
